NLI really liked the room. It has a comfortable bed, clean sheets, airconditioning and a private bathroom. Good price (although I see it's higher now). It's not a huge room, but definitely big enough for 1 or 2 people. Watercooker and fridge available. Drinking water available. Wifi not great, but that's a common issue in Uzbekistan, not the fault of the guesthouse. Location is relatively central, at walking distance from some shops and restaurant, and it's easy to take a bus or yandex anywhere.
Arrival was hectic. I was first told an (obligated) tourist registration wasn't possible and I should find another accommodation. Not what you want to hear after traveling all day and being sick, heading into day 12 of a food poisoning and only visiting Samarkand to go to the 4th hospital in a row (the local cuisine handed me a parasite, which Uzbek healthcare cannot tackle). All the while trying to figure out how to do the registration myself with a child screaming consistently through it for attention (there were older siblings around to get him out of this environment, not sure why this was a factor). Later on, I got the confirmation they in fact could register me, so I could stay... but the stress already happened. After that I was told I could pay digitally, which would be great as above a certain amount I have high costs to cash out and I was also feeling too ill to roam around searching ATMs. I was presented only options suitable for Uzbek banks, being urged to download apps that do not work for foreigners, but I tried nevertheless. Then, after I thoroughly explained in Russian translations what an IBAN code is and how to find it (all Uzbek bank accounts have one - it's needed for international transfers), I was only met with resistance and an unwillingness to undertake any action. It's really not that hard. All effort (and additional costs) had to come from my end, the guest. It was however not too much effort to knock on my door twice, early in the morning and waking me up, to ask for money. Like I wouldn't pay: that's literally all I've been trying to do. Not what I would call great customer service. After I paid them in cash they promised to get me my change later on, but they never did, even though I clearly communicated my check-out time. These interactions made it a less-than-positive experience, so all points solely go to the room itself.
HUWifi worked well, Owner is very nice. Got everything what you need. AC working well, hot water in the shower.
I had a serious problem with ants!! They were everywhere... got into my bag and stuff 🙄

AUI wasn’t able to stay the night as I had to travel to another destination, but in the time I was at Hostel Oscar, everything was terrific. The hosts were so kind and helpful, the accommodation was lovely.

TRUnfortunately we couldn’t stay at the hostel. Because when we arrived, there was nobody so we couldn’t get inside. We waited but we couldn’t wait any more because it was late and the street was too dark and isolated. We were afraid so had to find an other hotel.
The location was too isolated and dark.
