Bagan Thiripyitsaya Sanctuary Resort

This was my 3rd visit to the resort and each time the grounds have become more beautiful. It truly is a peaceful and quiet place to stay when in Bagan - very close to the temples and New Bagan. You can sit out on th deck (near the front office) and watch the amazing sunsets over the Irrawaddy River and the hills in the background. I always stay in one of the deluxe garden view rooms where you can see the grounds from your deck and the water. The cottages are basic but clean. Most of the time you're at the temples, enjoying the pool, or wandering around the grounds, so you're really only sleeping there or sitting out on your deck relaxing. The reason I didn't give them 5 stars is the decks at the cottages need to be repainted and the cushions on the deck chairs are in dire need of replacement (they were really dirty and torn). Last time I was there in 2006, they had just repainted the decks and had fresh cushions on them. They spend a lot of care on the gardens and grounds but it's time to fix up the decks and freshen up the rooms (some new bedding, etc.)

The resort, situated on the Irrawaddy River, is truly an oasis. The pool is lovely and for us, the perfect temperature. We were able to eat on a large deck above the pool two of the nights and opted to eat indoors the other one. Restaurant staff was wonderful sith a good grasp on English, although they may actually have more French and German speakers. Front dest and management staff were also very professional yet cordial. If anything had not been right, I am confident they would try to fix it. The grounds are beautiful and the duplexes adequately spaced. We heard nothing thorough the shared wall. The room was very nice and big. The bathroom could use refurbishing as the tub bottom was stained and at least one wall tile crack and badly mended. Given the country's need for everything following years of corrupt military rule, this was a pretty minor complaint. I would readily return and have confidence in recommending it.

We stayed 4 nights in the resort and it was simply the best! After a long day walking around the amazing temples in Bagan it offered us the best way to rest! Pool near our room gave us refresh and a beautiful view to the river. The silence of the resort it’s just magical and the birds singing makes you feel like in paradise! Also if you missed the temple you have one inside it! Staff was super kind and friendly. PaPa (hope I write it well) helped us with the city tour calling a driver for the next day and she was just lovely! What I have to say... miss you guys!

Thiripyitsaya Sanctuary Resort - Bagan If ever a resort had the correct name , this is it. A Sanctuary. A place of peace, restfulness and tranquility. Right from the very beginning of your stay at Thiripyitsaya you will immediately relax into the mystical magical timeless peace that is, Bagan. The rooms are tastefully decorated and very well kitted out with all you will need for a peaceful enjoyable stay in Bagan. It’s location is just perfect - halfway between old Bagan and New Bagan. The surrounding area is like stepping back in time as you visit the hundreds of temples, pagodas and stupas of Ancient Bagan. The stunning hotel gardens and beautiful relaxing pool have amazing views over the sleepy Irrawaddy river and the sunset here is breathtaking. The staff at Thiripyitsaya Sanctuary Resort are amazing. Each and every employee will treat you like you are the only person in the world. They are all so lovely. In particular though we have to thank Pa Pa. She is just the most gracious, professional and attentive person we have ever met. I don’t know if she is a manager at the hotel but if she isn’t - she should be!! Pa Pa made our stay at Thiripyitsaya just perfect. She arranged E-bikes to be ready at 7am in the mornings, gave us tips and advice for the best sight seeing around, organised our follow on journey from Bagan to Mandalay by River boat cruise (Simply Amazing!!!!) and she was always there to ask how we were and make sure we were having just the most wonderful stay in Bagan. This was our second time returning to Thiripyitsaya Sanctuary - Pa Pa remembered us from the previous year, remembered we liked the E-bikes to freely travel around beautiful Bagan and remembered we liked a beautiful garden villa with a porch overlooking the beautiful gardens and Irrawaddy river. She even remembered that we came from Ireland. 😀 It’s amazing how that someone working in a hotel with a beautiful personality and a gracious spirit can just make your holiday in that location something that will be a memory for a lifetime - Pa Pa is that person. We will definitely return to Bagan again and we will definitely stay again at Thiripyitsaya Sanctuary Resort. 🙏❤️🙏

Location and setting are superb - on a bend in the Irrawaddy river. The grounds are beautifully laid out and immaculately groomed. There is a large kitchen garden and fruit orchard, which is well worth a stroll around. The staff are very attentive and smiling. Very eager to help. Staff training is still login on with coaching from the senior staff. Downside is that ti feels a bit dated and the decor and fittings in the room were a bit worn. The restaurant was really expensive with a small menu which does not change - photos of the food in the menu. Overall poor value fo rteh food. We were a bit bored of the choices after three nights. No other choices within walking distance, but taxis can be hired from Bagan. River view rooms are nice for the view (B041 is the best) - but the boats on the river are loud and start at first light. The gardens are so nice that I would probably just go for an ordinary room if coming here again.

Hotel is nicely located at the river, nice pool area with a lush garden and a nice sunset view. However, staff was unskilled and could not handle standard requests. Bungalow was not clean. Breakfast buffet had a very limited selection and the quality was doubtful. Overall, the hotel price versus the experience you receive as a customer is not met. It should not be rated as a 4 STARS resort.

We have been many many times in Bagan, almost every year, and have always stayed at this wonderful hotel. We always get a warm welcome as returning guests. As always our state was magical, Everyone was extremely kind and helpful especially Nu Nu at the Concierge Desk with her suggestions and Miss Pa Pa asking us if we had enjoyed our stay. Centrally located, beautiful property with airy, huge rooms. The hotel has only 1 restaurant but is efficient in the service. They also have their own organic garden where they source fruits and vegs from

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights. We booked a normal room (as opposed to a riverside room) with breakfast included. The location is great - in old Bagan so easy to get to temples by scooter. The room was small and sparsely furnished with dirty bed sheets and towels that were originally white but now were a dirty shade of white with brown patches. The bathroom was old and in dire need of refurbishment. The A/V was very noisy as well. I personally liked the small breakfast buffet but note that others felt it too small for the price. There seems to be some dodgy agreement between the hotel and loc taxi drivers as the fares quoted when you book from the reception are higher than if you were to walk outside and hail one down. We decided to hire an e-bike or scooter on day 2 to give us more flexibility and were massively overcharged at $12 for 8 hours (or $8 for 4 hours) - they charged us for TWO people despite using ONE scooter as its apparently "hotel policy" to scam guests. The charge is per person normally but despite my questioning why were charged for 2 scooters I.e. two people when we only rented one scooter, the staff feigned ignorance. Such a rip off. On driving around we soon realised that the $12 charge itself is a scam as if you walk outside you will be able to rent a scooter for far less! On our first night we decided to eat dinner in the hotel as we arrived very late - it's a basic menu but everything is in $$. There is a framed sign at the reception from the tourism ministry which states it is a 3 * hotel. It's massively overpriced.

Nice hotel with perfect location. Great facilities and atmosphere especially at sun set time with the view on the river. Unfortunately this is not enough. Disappointing menu and dish quality. Limited wine selection. Staff not up to the standard of the hotel. Electric bikes for rent are outrageously expensive and not fully charged when given. 2 of them had a to be replaced during the day, in the middle of nowhere. Assistance was slow and hotel staff did not care. Overall good place to be, but do not expect good service, or good food.... extremely disappointing....
