I rarely give bad reviews, but I feel compelled to write this one. I chose Kataluma Inn El Nido based on the many positive reviews, and honestly, I feel like people are not giving their true experience. To start with the positive: the staff is friendly and helpful. They were polite and responsive. However, that does not make up for the condition of the rooms. The rooms look nothing like the photos online. While they were superficially cleaned, they are very poorly maintained and not attractive at all. There was no effort to make the room feel welcoming — just a plastic outdoor chair inside the room and that’s it. The bathroom looks extremely basic and worn down. The worst part, however, was the smell and air quality. The moment we entered the room, we were greeted by a strong mold smell. I have a serious dust and mold allergy. In the middle of the night, my allergies flared up severely — my entire face became swollen. I was afraid to go back to sleep and ended up staying on the balcony the entire night to avoid making it worse. The next morning, I informed the staff that I wanted to cancel the remaining five nights of our stay. Later that day, I had to seek urgent medical help. The doctor had to administer a cortisol IV to prevent me from going into an anaphylactic shock. This incident completely ruined my two-week stay in the Philippines, as my body needed days to recover from just one night in this hotel. Aside from the condition of the room, the hotel is also extremely noisy. When you are inside the room, you hear everything as if you are sleeping outside. I understand that this is not a luxury hotel, but basic hygiene, air quality, and proper maintenance should be standard. For anyone with allergies or sensitivities, I would strongly advise reconsidering.

Wir haben das Hotel als Zwischenaufenthalt genutzt, nach mehreren Tagen in Port Barton und vor unserer 4-Tages Bootstour mit BDBM nach Coron. Es ist ein sehr kleines Hotel, das als Familienbetrieb geführt wird. Entsprechend sind nicht allzu viele Dienstleistungen/Frühstück etc. zu erwarten, aber die Besitzerin ist ausgesprochen freundlich und erfüllt alle Wünsche. Zudem zeichnet sich das Hotel durch eine gute Lage aus: Es ist zwar an der Ausfallstraße gelegen, aber man ist zu Fuß in 10 Minuten mitten in der (Alt-)stadt und dem Hafen/Strand von El Nido. Das hat uns gut gefallen, nachdem wir vorher genügend Stranttage in Port Barton und danach ebenso viele Strandtage auf unserer Bootstour hatten.

Wir haben alles so angetroffen, wie wir es erwartet haben. Allerdings sind die Zimmer im 1. Stock - und es gibt keinen Fahrstuhl...
