Dongdaemun Karrot Hostel

The staff and owner of the hostel were really nice and accommodating. They allowed us to leave our luggage before and after check-out since we have scheduled plans during those times. The place is also near the bus and train station which makes it easier to transfer from one destination to another.

- There's no bidet (but I think this isn't a thing in Korea? haha) - Our room was in the fourth floor, so we need to climb a narrow stair since the elevator is until the 3rd floor only. Not a big problem, but it's challenging in case you have a lot of luggages. - The room is quite small for 3 people with large luggages, just a thing to consider if you're looking for something more spacious. But it's not really an issue if you consider the hostel as a place to sleep in/storage only.

The location is good near to bus stop and Subway.

Without falling into the luxury category, the property offers exactly what a traveler needs, everything is functional. The location is perfect, I liked the way everything is organized to please the traveler, to meet his needs.

There is a washing machine and a dryer. It's clean here. New air conditioner. Do not be afraid that the housing is on the market, it’s a very good location. The limousine bus to the airport is just 3(!) minutes from the hotel. Special thanks to Sam, who helped me to carry the luggages at 5 a.m. Generally, guys are vert communicative and super friendly!

There was no travel kit

- Incredibly friendly and helpful owner/manager - Good value for money - Central location, with quite a few underground and bus stations very close by (use of Naver or Kakao map services to find the building is highly recommended!) - Small, local clientele-oriented market right next to the hostel

- Place looks a bit run down, but new management is doing its best to make everything look and feel more pleasant!

The general location was OK because of its proximity to many attractions, although the specific location on a back alley left much to be desired. The gentleman who staffed the property was kind and helpful. The beds were reasonably comfortable.

The room was dark with no options for increasing the lighting. The only natural light and ventilation was from a small window high on the outside wall of our room. The lights in the bathroom were inoperable and we needed to use a flashlight to do our business. The property overall was cramped and various supplies and boxes took up the limited space in the 'lobby' area. The property was not what we expected based on the few glowing reviews we read following its recent reopening. After our experience we suspect the reviews were either manufactured or the reviewers had extremely low expectations that were easily exceeded. We stayed only one night and moved to a much better property, even though this meant losing the non-refundable cost of the remaining four nights we'd paid for. This fact alone should help you with your decision to stay or not.
