Excellent location with view on Piton des Neiges and surrounding mountains. Really enjoyed waking up in the morning and having the Piton des Neiges in front of us !

A very light but consistant manhole smell near the entrance when sitting under the veranda.

"Great base to start your hikes in Cilaos"

After driving all the 400 bends to get to Cilaos, the house is pretty easy to navigate to (look for the white house with the blue windows and doors on the left side of the road). The house is large and accommodates many guests - we were just 2 people. It was extremely useful having 1 full bathroom and a second toilet so we could quickly get ready in the mornings before hiking. The kitchen area is large and well equipt with everything you might need. There is even a bbq and covered seating area in the garden if you have time to enjoy them. We really appreciated the availability of the washing machine and he detergent provided. After a full day of hiking and swimming by the waterfalls, the clothes definitely needed cleaning! The main road is a few minutes walk from the apartment with a great bakery open from 06:00. The shop renting hiking poles is just on the corner as you get to the main road and the supermarket is not too far down the main road. Note: not all restaurants open every evening and you may need to reserve a table. However, there are always food options around.

The house heats up a lot during the day and retains it during the night. We tried to sleep with the windows and doors open to let the cool night time air in. But as the house is just off one of the main roads, there is through traffic early in the morning which can get noisy, other times, it's very peaceful. In addition, there are mosquitos and other insects around. There is a fan provided but it just circulates warm air around.
