Ultra Hostel

17階建ビルの最上階にあり、通常はエレベーターで問題なく行けます。しかしながら、停電があり17階を階段で登った時は大変な思いをしました。

I must start by saying that I would have rated the cleanliness of this property a 0; in Italy, law enforcement would have stepped in to shut it down immediately! The kitchen and bathrooms are in appalling condition. Pigeons freely enter the premises because they are fed straight from the guests' plates, leaving the kitchen—and other areas—covered in droppings. To make matters worse, children were petting and even kissing these disease-carrying birds, and then touching every object and doorknob. On my last day, the severe lack of hygiene caused me severe intestinal issues, forcing me to take medication to recover. This has never happened to me before, not even in India! I also want to highlight another major issue: there are long-term 'guests' staying permanently at the hostel. They behave as if they own the place, acting in a very disruptive and annoying manner toward short-term travelers—a rather common problem in these countries. As far as I am concerned, the price should be €1 per night. On top of everything else, the woman at the reception (the owner) tried to rip me off by using a exchange rate higher than the official one.

Arriving to find that a private room was in fact available, so being able to check straight into that, instead of a dorm. After 3 days' camping in the mountains it was bliss to be able to spread out and reorganise myself. The room was huge and well furnished, with mirrors, decent lighting, plenty of shelves and sockets, and a rug on the floor that made for comfortable yoga stretching (much needed after 3 nights in a tent!). Effective aircon. The shared wc and shower were just outside the room and both modern, spacious and very clean. The whole place feels more like a hotel than a hostel from where I am, though i believe there are kitchen facilities etc upstairs. It's a very civilised, quiet and clean hostel though! The location isn't bad, either.. everything is pretty much within walking distance (though i did do about 17000 steps today 😂)

It took a bit of finding but maybe i failed to absorb some instructions i should have read somewhere.. anyway, if you arrive by taxi, pull up outside the Rumi Hotel or the Sultanbey Turkish Restaurant. If you then walk down the little side street that runs between those two buildings and turn L behind the Turkish Restaurant, you'll find the door to no. 8. The hostel is on 17th floor. (Buzz them for entry at ground level.)
