The Hideaway

Onwijs vriendelijk ontvangen door de Junior Manager Srimal. Hij heeft me een uitgebreide rondleiding gegeven door de tuin en alle vruchten, kruiden en specerijen laten proeven die daar groeien. Bijzondere ervaring.

Ik was die dag de enige gast dus erg rustig. Ook wel fijn, maar net wat je zoekt.

Great place to stay, good breakfast and nice surroundings. The host is very responsible as he keep on updating our movement underway to the place. We were cycling and arrived a little bit late for check-in as in about 8pm. We were informed that the AC was not working earlier however the room is okay with fan. Other than that the balcony is amazing place to chill with greenish view. Overall is Okay.

The place has good potential, but it needs better management / staff training. Also, the building itself is still under construction on some parts, and overall, it just feels unfinished. If you pay close attention to their main image of the building on their Google page, you will notice it is a digital rendition, not an actual photo.

I have been traveling in Sri Lanka for close to 9 months over the past year or so. This is by far the worst experience I have had at a hotel / guesthouse. This is mainly due to the bad attitude of the manager who accused me of being an inconvenience when I pointed out things like a broken tap, asking for the wifi, or enquiring about when the loud generator right next to my room would stop for the night in order to get some sleep. When I invited him at breakfast to talk through our differences so that we could part ways in peace, he refused, accused me of breaking the tap (when i was clearly eroded and broken prior to arrival - i took photos), and ask me to leave by 9:30 at the latest, even though check out was at 11am (as per booking.com). I didn't even mention to him the leaking toilet, broken bath floor, and bathroom towel railing (all of which I took photos of). Also at breakfast the other guests had extra slices of fruit such as watermelon and pineapple, which they did not serve to me even after I asked - I clearly had a very basic breakfast compared to the other guests, and I am sure this was just a power move by the manager to make me feel even more unwelcome. After leaving, the manager sent me nasty whatsapp messages about how he never wishes to see me again...wt actual f? I have taken screenshots of these and will be sharing with booking.com. I am disappointed by how this was handled and how I was treated - a property with similar issues, with a different response and action from the manager, would still have been acceptable. But the manager's actions made me feel unwelcome, uneasy and unsafe. I can not recommend this property to other users. STAY AWAY!

This place is an oasis of calmness and tranquility, close to Kurunegala. Nice and spaceous rooms, wonderful food and lovely staff. There is also a swimming pool, which is great to cool off. The gardens around the villa are beautiful and full of fruit, which is served during breakfast.

We don’t have anything we didn’t like.

Una villa preciosa en medio de la naturaleza. Hemos estado muy agusto. Muy limpio. El personal super amable y encantador!

El anfitrión de 10. Muy servicial y pendiente de que estuviéramos bien todo el rato. El sitio es espectacular en medio de la selva.

The Hideaway is the perfect place to stay! The house and premises are beautiful, quiet and peaceful. We had our own TukTuk so it didn’t bother us that it’s a bit further out. Samantha, his wife and employees were super friendly and helpful. He showed us around his garden and explained all about the different plants, we ate fresh fruit straight from the tree and picked a watermelon and coconut to have for breakfast. Breakfast and dinner were freshly prepared and absolutely delicious. Before leaving, we were even allowed to plant a coconut tree. Playing badminton underneath palm trees was also a fantastic experience! Samantha also helped us plan a two day hiking tour for the next day which was a great and unexpected add-on to our trip! Communication was very easy, both via WhatsApp and in person.

Unfortunately there was a problem with the swimming pool while we were there and the team of the Hideaway tried everything to fix it. Since we only stayed for one night, they couldn’t resolve it fast enough. However, the stay was still perfect and Samantha and his team made up for it in every way possible!

Beautiful garden, beautiful pool :) Srimal is very helpful and nice host. He prepared very tasty breakfasts and juices from fresh fruits. He showed us his garden full of fruits that they grow themselves. We highly recommend.

Beautifully designed, laid out and finished. Gorgeous setting in the forest and the pool was fantastic. Food was delicious and very generous. Srimal made us feel very welcome and really went to great lengths to make our stay enjoyable, it’s a long way from town but absolutely worth it. The burned cashews are an experience!
