- not the same with photo - no WiFi - no toilet paper if you don’t ask for - no shampoo - no water sometimes they forgot to refill - hard communication. There is one guy why speaks English and nice. But it is hard to meet him. I felt completely lost and unassisted during stay.

Amazing location right over the ocean. Very helpful and caring staff. Derawan Islands are a spectacular tropical island paradise with diving, oceans, marine biodiversity, pristine coral reefs, cenotes and more that rivals places like the Maldives. I have never swum with so many turtles in my life! The staff easily organises boat drivers for you to take you island hopping for truly spectacular snorkling and other adventures.

Visitors to Derawan Islands should note the archipelago is a very remote tropical island paradise. Tourist facilities and public restaurants are very minimal. Most accommodations are very basic, but comfortable. You're there to experience nature anyway so a clean simple room with bed is all you need. I don't think the islands have recovered from COVID yet and the area is still quite undiscovered by tourists. I did not see another Western tourist during my week long stay. I felt very safe as a single female traveller despite this and was welcomed warmly by locals. Note that it is advised to respect the local Muslim custom and dress quite conservatively as a woman, as well as covering up whilst swimming.
