We were astonished about the wonderful, pristine surroundings - real Alpine everyday life in a tiny and non-embellished landscape. This is what you are longing for - after sterile (or dirty) civilized life in the City. Long evenings, watching the surrounding peaks of the mountain, every hours, minutes - the huge theater of changing scenery: the works of the lights, mist, clouds, some spikes with snow and many more... I had to start with the host for this (hidden?) gem - Barbara & Co (of course): together they manage this household - the historic building and the goat farm with excellent milk, yoghurt and cheese. The place where to return (at least, in my dreams). Ugis.

"Nächte in den Bergen"

Ruhige und spektakuläre Lage mit Blick auf den Gran Paradiso. Das Frühstück war reichhaltig und lecker. Man konnte sich Orangensaft frisch pressen und Produkte vom hauseigenen Ziegenhof genießen. Barbara hält alles sehr sauber und hat uns bei Fragen gut unterstützt. Es ist auf jeden Fall eine Reise wert.

"Worth staying for the view and the breakfast, and the beautiful road up the mountain to the farmhouse"

8.0

The location of the historic farmhouse being high on the south facing valley side is sunny, serene, surrounded by nature and with spectacular big views of the valley and beautiful mountains opposite from the historic wooden balcony of the bedroom. I saw lizards, a fox and many bird species including hoopoe and cuckoo from my bedroom, all in one evening. Breakfast was cold buffet style served in the traditional farmhouse dining room and was excellent, with homemade items: two fruit pies, biscuits, white bread, rye bread, goat cheese and goat yogurt. There was also cow cheese, ham, salami, eggs, jam, butter, honey, granola (with extra nuts and chocolate chips available), milk, hot chocolate, various coffees, various teas, fruit juice, apples, oranges (and a machine to squeeze them). It was a shame that check in time was so late. Not being able to arrive until 5pm feels restrictive and limited the time available to enjoy the location. I found the bedroom and ensuite bathroom clean and the bed comfortable. A sofa/comfy chair and desk/table in the room would be an improvement as would bedside lamps and nearby plug sockets. The shower was good, though only a single tiny sachet of shower gel/shampoo was provided. Parking was free and immediately adjacent the farmhouse. The driveway was narrow, steep and with a very tight bend. Be aware the roads to get to the location are often steep, winding and narrow but do provide a beautiful route up the mountain through some lovely pine forest. Noise from guests talking in adjacent bedrooms was noticeable and the parts of the balcony for each bedroom were not at all private from those of the other bedrooms which felt somewhat awkward. Overall, a stay is highly recommended and I would certainly return.

The host, Barbara, was kind (she even gave me a cold bottle of local beer upon arrival) and attentive, though in my opinion there was too little information about the accommodation, facilities and location available unless guests can converse with the host in Italian. To remedy this, I respectfully suggest the following may help improve the guest experience further: 1. Provide a sketch map in the bedroom of the farm, and farmhouse, to show where guests are welcome to explore and where to see the animals. 2. There is a kitchen and a lounge area in the farmhouse but it was unclear whether guests could use these or whether they were part of the host’s private home. Because the guest bedroom did not have comfy chairs or sofas or table or any drink making facilities, it should be made more clear whether these facilities can be used by guests. 3. Perhaps a sketch map in the bedroom showing nearby shops, restaurants, bars, etc would help too, with information about their facilities, menu and opening times, maybe their website details if they have them. Considering that no food was offered at the accommodation in the evening this would be helpful. 4. Maybe a comprehensive guest information pack in the bedroom written in several languages would be helpful. 5. Given the rather remote location of the property it would be helpful if a small selection of fairly priced food and supplies were available to buy, eg from an honesty fridge/freezer/box, maybe including items such as snacks, beers, cakes, crisps, bread, butter, jam, honey, biscuits, milk, cereal, sausages, pizza, pasta, etc so that guests could prepare something to eat using the kitchen (if it can indeed be used by guests) or to enjoy a little picnic on the outdoor benches in the grounds of the farmhouse. Other places I have stayed at have a way of paying online for items, making it efficient and easy.
