Aquila Antica

The location was excellent, very close to a lovely shopping and restaurant pedestrian area and a beautiful park. We enjoyed a free classic Italian breakfast, espresso and croissant . When we arrived by bus and could not get a taxi to our room, the host came a picked us up, he went above and beyond to help!

We stayed for 4 days and had a great time. Central location for walking around town. We think the building has been rebuilt, or completely structurally renovated since the earthquake and it felt really solid. Which is nice for this town! The host was friendly. He made home made muffins and apple tart for breakfast every day. He did not speak English, but we easily used our phones to communicate. We spent a night at the hospital and came back at 4am and were able to sleep straight till noon without any other guests or street noise so it's super quiet. We stayed in the en suite which has a bathroom but not a balcony. I think the other two rooms have a little balcony to the inner courtyard but share a bathroom. Free breakfast and cooking / cleaning facilities. Fresh yogurt, orange juice, milk and water in the fridge. I can recommend driving up to the gran sasso, hiking to the hilltop castle and the lake. For restaurants head to Restourante Nona Christina. Much better, and cheaper than the street restaurants in the main streets.

Parking. Property is in the heart of town and you cannot park anywhere close. Google also gets lost with the roads that are still closed for renovations from the earthquake. I recommend you navigate to the castle and park in the streets around it, 5-10min walk. There is 3 flights of stairs to get up, fine for us, but should be noted. We actually expected it to be a bit bigger than it was, it is an apartment on the 3rd floor with three bedrooms, a kitchen and dining room. Nothing wrong with that, it was beautiful and quiet, I think we read the description wrong, it is accurate. The coffee pods he gave made really bad coffee. The en suite shower is a bit small and the water is not very warm (or is that just Italy?). The breakfast is just bread and cakes that are left on the table for the next day, useful and Italian but don't expect fresh fruit or warm food.

Comfortable, clean, very friendly and helpful. Super location. Nice homemade cake with breakfast.

There was a birthday party in a street just outside, playing extremely loud music with bass that made the whole building reverberate. Lasted until midnight- quiet and peaceful after that!

The most amazing part was the hosts who were always kind to us. They reply immediately to any concerns we have. The clean rooms, the breakfast, the loaded fridge with juices and yoghurts, I just love this place.
