Quaint Downtown Cottage

The location and off-street parking are good, and the baseboard heating worked well in each room to keep us warm through the drizzly fall weather, but nearly every other aspect of this property was terrible. Nowhere near worth the non-refundable amount I paid to stay here.

Unfortunately, this was a really dismal stay for myself and my travel companion. Despite the photos and description on Booking.com indicating that there's a river view from the property, a tall building is currently being constructed across the street, totally obscuring this view. The property owners/managers need to fully remove all references to the river view and make this clear--they've substituted the word "quaint" instead of "riverview" in the name, but the photos and description remain and are totally wrong and misleading. The property now boasts a "construction site view", which should have been clear well before we arrived. The laundry from the previous occupant had not been run (there was a load sitting dry in the washer when we walked in).  We weren't at all confident that the sheets in place on the beds had actually been washed for us. Both mattresses were rock-hard foam that neither of us found remotely comfortable. The pillows were old and some were visibly dirty/sweat-stained. The kitchen was rundown and equipped with dirty, old cookware (stained baking dishes, for example). The oven was likewise visibly dirty inside. We had planned to cook a fair amount, but decided against it because the kitchen wasn't very well equipped or clean. The "coffee machine" provided is a stained old ceramic pour-over cone and the "free coffee" supplied is extremely old pre-ground coffee in a plastic bin. It almost looked moldy and like it hadn't been replaced or the container cleaned in a very long time. Needless to say, we did not drink it. The bathroom also looked dirty and run down, with some visible mold and paint peeling from ceiling and baseboards, etc. There was enough hot water for each of us each day, which was nice.

The cottage is in a good location, nice view of the river, walkable to many places of interest and in a quiet neighborhood. The bed was comfortable. The sofa chairs in the living room were great. Having a private parking space was very handy as street parking was extremely limited.

A foot stool should be provided to reach the high shelves in the kitchen.

Very Cute little cottage in Downtown Astoria, a block away from the waterfront! The location is key here! Roller Skating Next across the street, theater a block away, Fort George a block the other direction! Everything is at your fingertips and the house is very accommodating with laundry, and extra beds tucked into the closet and the Murphy Bed was a nice surprise as well. This was perfect for our family's overnight adventure to Astoria and the Coast.

The Bathroom Lock and Handle needs a little attention and the auto lock is temperamental, but works as long as you follow the instructions in the house guide ;-)
