USI love this hotel. It's a classic place with charm and character. If you're on your way to or from Murchison Falls, this is the place to stay. When they were here filming The African Queen., room 3 is where Katherine Hepburn stayed and Humphrey Bogart was in room 5 The bar/restaurant is spacious and airy. We ate and drank well enjoying the atmosphere of this place.
Although at checkout, there was a slight confusion about the price of the items on the dinner menu, the staff graciously and generously worked things out. Thank you.

MWThe staff and customer service were excellent, very attentive and eager to help with any requests. The room was cleaned well every day, and the communal spaces were very pretty and well maintained.
The room itself could have used a bit more attention. While it was very clean and comfortable, it was quite simple without much styling and the bathroom was a bit rundown (though very clean).
NOAs the first hotel in Uganda, they have preserved the colonial facades nicely. Some of the staff were genuinely nice. There was some jazz in the dinner area that was tranquil.
Very disappointing stay. I have stayed here 2 times previously, 10 and 15 years ago- and the difference is very apparent. The new owners seem to not appreciate the cultural importance of the oldest hotel in Uganda, the staff sorely needs training. We saw the Hemingway-room and staff pointed at a young Fidel Castro and told me it was Hemingway. Staff were sleeping as we arrived. 3 TV screens blasting pop-videos in surround as we were dining, we could not hear eachother, even when we were the only guests. We asked politely for it to be turned down, nope. Food was way over priced for taste and value. They put up a huge projector screen for a fotball match that noone were watching. Mattress was firm (Indian) comfort. Room leaning on highway. Only one bedside table, one socket. 5 taps in shower not correctly matched to the old ones. Everything felt chaotic, even the check-in personnel tried to give me "new price" talk, even though our booking price was confirmed. We didn't make it to our next destination because the Wi-Fi at payment machine did not work. I can go on, but truly, this place is a bit of a disaster.
