Guests highly rate the large dining and kitchen area and frequently praise the comfortable beds.
NZAwesome staff and most of the guests - always a few who need mummy to clean up after them and need a reminder 🤷♂️and/or struggle with shared kitchen/dining/lounge situation - but overall an epic place to stay with an epic crew of snow frothers who mostly all look out for each other with encouragement, humour and support 🤩 Closest lift just 50m and so handy to ride/ski back for food or equipment or just to chill before getting back out there.
AUSuper friendly and helpful staff, great views of the mountains and great atmosphere
AUlocation and good beds
no bins in rooms nor sanitary bins in toilets
AUGreat atmosphere, excellent and accomodating staff.
USWell equipped kitchen, drying room, proximity to Norikura and Cortina ski resorts, friendly staff.
Very cold hallways, not always staff around for questions or help, creaky beds, not the most social hostel in my experience.
JPThe location is great—close to the lifts. The beds are really comfy and nice, and there's enough storage space for skis and snowboards in the drying room. The staff is really nice and welcoming. Everyone speaks English, and they sell you the day pass to Cortina-Norikura at a cheaper price. There is a kitchen that could be used to make meals, which is really nice for a skiing environment, and there's storage space and fridges for storing food. Every room has plenty of hangers for clothes, etc.
The showers were a mess and were very unpleasant to use. Whenever I could I went to the onsen at the nearby hotels (for a fee). The staff offers to take you grocery shopping for a fee but I feel this service should be free as they charge for all shuttles they offer (unlike other hostels in the area in the same price range) i.e. from the train stations or other resorts. The drying room has a dryer which works great but there is no ventilation. The kitchen is not cleaned often enough and the bins were often full. The hallway and toilets were not heated (but the toilet seats were! so it's kinda ok)
JPThe staffs there are realllly good. Everyone is so nice and friendly, I think it's a really good space to stay in if you r travel alone. You will meet a lot of wonderful people there. Also, Backpackers is really closed to Norikura lift. Take your board, you can take the lift in 3 mins (of course including the time wearing snow boots).
Additionally, I have to say it's a old building, if you do mind the place you r staying is new or not, maybe Backpackers is not suitable for you. Because closed by Norikura snow resort, it is far away from the center of Hakuba.
