"A Scam On Booking.com - Do Not Book This Property"

1.0

Nothing

We booked this place only because it was listed as pet-friendly. To be sure, we even called ahead to inform them that we would be bringing our three-month-old puppy, and they confirmed it was okay. However, our experience turned out to be a complete disaster. We arrived and checked in at 2 PM, but the room wasn’t even ready. It quickly became obvious that this wasn’t a proper rental—it was actually the owner’s personal apartment, filled with all their belongings except for the furniture. The bathroom was filthy, full of sand, and clearly hadn’t been cleaned at all. The worst part happened later in the evening. At 7:30 PM, the owner suddenly forced us to leave, claiming our puppy was "too big," even though she had already approved it over the phone. Things escalated quickly—she banged on our door, yelled at us, and accused our puppy of damaging a carpet. The so-called "damaged carpet" was actually placed on the sofa—so if it wasn’t meant to be used, why leave it there in the first place? She then demanded €15 (4500 LKR) for the carpet, claiming it was "Italian." However, when I checked, it was just a regular Sri Lankan carpet that you can buy anywhere locally. Even after I gave her 5000 LKR, she kept demanding more. Since I was aware of the exchange rate at the time (1 EUR = 301 LKR), I pointed it out to her—and suddenly, she had nothing more to say. To make things even worse, she accused us of using her bowls, even though we had our own bowl for our puppy. Instead of asking or checking, she simply started yelling at us without any clarification. The hypocrisy of this situation was unbelievable—her apartment had many pictures of dogs, yet she made such a big issue about a tiny three-month-old puppy. When I told her she should remove the "Pets Allowed" option from Booking.com, she rudely responded that she doesn’t even want to be on Booking.com and that she only accepts long-term foreign guests, not locals.
