Less than 24 hours before check-in, the host messaged me to say that he had double-booked the property we had reserved, blaming Booking because the calendar did not update correctly. I had even sent him a Whatsapp message more than a month prior to confirm that the reservation was legit, and they replied yes. We had already arrived to the city and being high season, we were unable to find another property at such short notice. The host offered us a smaller apartment located next to the house we had reserved at a discounted rate, so we agreed to take the apartment that he proposed. It just one small room with a tiny kitchen and bathroom, worth far less than the large house we had reserved. For 2 of the 4 days there was no hot water and the toilet did not have water to flush. We never saw the host, and in the end he provided me a 10% discount ($50) for the inconvenience despite the value of the apartment being much lower than the 4-bedroom home we paid for.
