"Ideal base for exploring Marrakesh"

8.0

The house is superbly situated, only 300m or so from the Jemaa el-Fnaa marketplace in the middle of shops and eating places, and all the hustle and bustle that goes with it. (Bear in mind that cars cannot access so getting here does involve a walk from where you are dropped off if you have lots of luggage, and in Morocco life starts late and ends late and being so close to the market means it can be noisy until midnight or so - whether this is a pro or con is down to you). The owner Mohamed is very welcoming and always available if you require assistance, and his sister stayed at the property to welcome us with a mint tea to let us in even though our plane had been delayed. There are 2 bedrooms, one with 3 single beds and one with a double. The bedrooms are of OK size - this is the old town after all - and the sitting area is ok for a quick rest stop after wandering around Marrakesh. There is an (unfinished) roof terrace that the more adventurous can take your drink up to with a limited view to the mountains and over the rooftops which is nice. The kitchen is typically Moroccan but with no real cooking facilities other than making a cuppa. But you're probably not there to cook anyway so that's not a problem. Almost next door to one side is the Riad Monceau with it's jazz bar and the other is the Darder rooftop - two of the extremely rare places where you can grab a nice cold beer in the heat of the afternoon. The shower has plenty of hot water, and there are surplus rugs and blankets for the colder nights (this is Morocco - there is no heating).

The bathroom is tiny, and the toilet a little bit awkwardly situated for the longer legged person. Also as it's a wetroom if not paying attention when using the shower you can soak pretty much everything. But perhaps it's biggest issue is that there is a hole in the wall between the bathroom and the living room (presumably for ventilation) that not only gives a headshot of the person taking a shower also does nothing to disguise any toilet noises lol. Brings you closer as a family I guess.....

"Great Host Great Location"

8.0

A great location close to the market and a bit quieter. The host was great and make us some Morroccan tea upon arrival.

The bathroom configuration was a bit weird.
