The location was excellent, by Mahaweli river, just 5 minutes to Peradeniya university hospital. The host is a doctor and his family are running the hotel. The called the day before to check. Ideal and comfortable location for anyone planning a holiday or visiting Peradeniya university or hospital. The hot water shower was an unexpected bonus. The room was as per described in Booking.com. There are stair access to one floor, so if you are unable to climb stairs please ask for a room with direct access.

I stayed at Varsity Villa during my visit from Singapore, and it was one of the best parts of my trip. The villa is peaceful and surrounded by beautiful greenery with a stunning view of the Mahaweli River. Every morning, I woke up to fresh air and the sound of birds, which felt like a true escape from city life. The English breakfast was delicious, with perfectly cooked eggs, tasty sausages, and fresh toast that made each morning feel special. The staff were incredibly kind and always ready to help, making me feel at home even though I was in a new country. The location is also very convenient, close to Peradeniya Botanical Garden and the university, with easy access to transport. I highly recommend Varsity Villa to anyone looking for a quiet, comfortable stay in Sri Lanka. I will definitely come back again!

We chose Varsity Villa because it seemed a smart way of seeing the Kandy Botanical Gardens and then just walking 'home', and also a way to beat the infamous crowds and chaos at Kandy Railway Station in joining the 'Ella Odyssey' the next morning (it is only about 600 meters from Peradeniya Railway Station, where the Odyssey stops twice... you get there by walking along the railway track, which everyone does). It was a very successful choice for both reasons, except that, even with Google Maps, it is easy to walk straight past Varsity Villa without realising it is there! The outside just looks like an extra entry at the side of the local medical centre, and the sign announcing it is not easily noticed. A tiny establishment with what seems like only a couple of rooms for occupancy, but when you get inside, the size of the rooms (our room, anyway) is quite surprising ... this was probably the most spacious room we had anywhere in our 18-day trip. As such, it is extremely good value for money, and we were pleased we had chosen it... even though the town of Peradeniya itself is nothing to write home about (we did love the old railway station, however!)

Clean, very close to Peradeniya station, decent place to eat next door. Nice view from the room. Shower took a little while to get warm but did eventually!

WiFi was poor in the room, but we only stayed for one night so it wasn't too big a deal. Exposed cables hanging in both the room and bathroom.
