Casa Cataleya Refugio Bohemio y Romántico en Oaxaca

Our host, Dulce, was so kind and caring! She made our stay incredibly easy, always communicating and asking us what we needed. We are so grateful to her! The room was comfortable, the courtyard garden was beautiful. Good water pressure in the shower. Location was a 10 min walk from the Zócalo. We were also given small bottles of water in the room!

Our room was the closest room to the road, so we did hear a lot of traffic noise, and also some karaoke parties—we were here during the lead up to Día de los Muertos, so that could be why there were loud people nearby. Also, the noise was less audible deeper into the property. It die down later at night (11:30pm onward). The shower is not separated from the rest of the bathroom, but the floor dries fairly quickly. We loved our stay at Casa Cataleya! Just some things to know before booking.

We enjoyed seven days at Casa Cataleya. The positive reviews in booking.com turned out to be reliable! Casa Cataleya’s location in the Noria neighborhood was perfect, only a short walk from Mercado 20 Noviembre and the Zocalo, but far enough away from the hum and buzz of the crowd. This allowed us to explore the streets, the restaurants, the markets at our leisure, then retire to our room for a siesta and venture out again when the day turned cooler. Finding decent accommodations close to the Zocalo was a challenge, because all too often rooms are dark and dingy, smelly and noisy. (We read the reviews of many hotels.) We are happy to report that Casa Cataleya is bright and clean, a peaceful oasis in the concrete jungle. Its owners, Dulce and Erick, pay great attention to housekeeping and guest comfort. Security was never a concern, so that during the days our door to the courtyard garden was usually open to the plants and to the sound and sight of birds. The shower water was hot and reliable, even though you may wait a few minutes for hot water if you are the first to trigger the flash heater. WiFi was good! Self-serve coffee and tea in the courtyard, panaderia and corner store within a block. Street food and restaurants minutes away by foot. Rooms are not air conditioned, but we slept soundly with the ceiling fan spinning silently above.

Our favourite thing about the property was how friendly, kind & welcoming Dulce was! She made us feel so at home right away & helped us alot with making plans for tours etc! It’s a lovely tranquil place to stay & explore the city from - very clean & fresh, super cosy bed, hot water. A nice little garden & free teas & coffees ☺️ it felt like a little community there, all the other guests were very nice!

Nothing, it was wonderful! No AC but the ceiling fan works really well so it wasn’t necessary.

Dulce Ayala was the nicest and sweetest host. The property was well looked after and the little garden was beautiful.

The room got a bit warm during the day. Otherwise everything was perfect.

Dulce made sure we had the warmest welcome possible in the great city of Oaxaca. We unexpectedly arrived early and she rushed to the property to made sure we had our room ready asap. She is the absolute best en kindest host. The rooms itself include everything you’d need for a comfortable stay in the city. The apartments are clean and neat while everything is at walking distance. Would highly recommend!

It is so cute and beautiful, with Mexican and modern decor. Also extremely comfortable and well located. The host is AMAZING, sweet, carrying and gsve us great tips! I totally loved our stay.
