GBThe hostel was clean and beautifully traditional on the inside. Futons were comfortable and we had everything we needed. Some lovely touches like the shampoo bar for guests to use. We were the only guests so had the whole place to ourselves. The owner was very welcoming and friendly.

CYI really enjoyed my stay at this hotel. The owner is an engineer who created this space almost from scratch, and you can truly feel the care and thought put into every detail. Every day the place was clean, well-maintained, and absolutely perfect. Right next door, the owner and his wife run a Thai restaurant, and the food there is incredibly delicious! And those two cats who come by during the day and spend time in the guesthouse — they are simply amazing.
AUMomiji hostel is more like a Bed and Breakfast than a hostel. We enjoyed out 2 nights here and found it to be a good base as we explored around the area. The host was very friendly and provided lots of helpful suggestions for what to see in the local area and recommendations for hiking trails around Aso. The host kindly provided a breakfast which was suitable for a vegan diet. The kitchen was well equipped and clean and the building was a nice traditional Japanese house.
The description accurately mentions that the walls are not sound-proof so we did have to be careful of sound so as not to disturb the guests staying next door.
