"Beautiful Cabin"

10.0

We really liked the location. It takes about 20 minutes to get to Bryson City, but the drive is beautiful! Mountain Lure has it all right down to the blender! You won't need to pack anything except your clothes & a camera. There is a Roku if you want to watch TV. The hottub was ready when we arrived, the grill had plenty of gas & the firepit was a great place to wind down the night! The ridge road up to the cabin is pretty steep, but even in the rain, my car made it up just fine. It is the 3rd cabin up & the first driveway to your right on that road. My boyfriend & I loved it so much, we stayed an extra day just to enjoy the cabin. The cabin was very clean & organized so it was easy to find anything we needed. I loved that the binder had suggestions of things to do & places to go. It was quite handy to have. We will definitely be checking availability for Mountain Lure when we come back next year!

Location and view.

In sum, this Bryson City, NC rental house has “great bones and potential but lacks a lot of standard details.” The positives: well built home. Classic ranch-type feel in a very small mtn home. Great front porch with lots of space. Pet friendly. Beautiful floorboards. Decent view (although too many trees). Relatively close to Bryson City and the epic Tsali trails so geographically convenient to get around in the area. Now for the negatives: the house was very dark and lacked a lot of light. There was little to no water pressure and no hot water. Only lukewarm water all week. The drinking water was light brown and hazy. I called the 800 service number and they just told me to run the water longer with an open tap for 4-5 minutes before drinking it. Well, the water never cleared up and was sort of disgusting. We opted for filtered water from the local Ingles. We had only 6 forks in the silverware drawer in the kitchen so they had to be washed for every single meal. The kitchen utensils were old, cracked, and haggard. Totally worn out. Same for the kitchen appliances. They looked like they had seen much better days back in the 1980s. The shockingly narrow road up to the house is truly treacherous. The final turn, especially at night, could be deadly as it’s a totally blind 180 degree turn that, due to the sharp steep climb, doesn’t allow your headlights to see what is below you so you don’t know where the right side drop off is relative to your vehicle. And there is no barrier whatsoever. I drive competitive offroad trucks, too, so I am normally used to this in backcountry situations but i don’t have family with me on those runs. I did here and that final turn was something I haven’t seen before. When done in the dark and in the rain or fog, it is really dangerous. Finally, the driveway was largely dark grey mud after a recent bout of heavy rain. The driveway needs to be scraped, new screed installed, tamped and re-built.
