super sweet staff, very spacious rooms (stayed in a ladies’ dorm), amazing vibes in the hostel - recommended!

Made amazing friends here. Really enjoyed every moment. They let us BBQ one night. Always greeted me with a smile. I felt like a friend of the family even after just 3 days. Will definitely go back

No breakfast really in the morning, and the bar was a little unpredictable of when it was open or not. A happy hour or daily bar would have been nice

The property and location is great, and most of the staff and volunteers are lovely. However, while I was in the kitchen preparing food, the short girl with dark hair and a tattoo on her shoulder was speaking to another member of staff about me and called me “morena” and “negro”, then they both laughed. I didn’t say anything at the time, as I was so shocked and felt uncomfortable. I don’t think she knew I could understand Spanish but even if I couldn’t, this is completely unacceptable and unprofessional.

The hostel is super nice, all the common areas are well kept, we loved the rooftop terrace.

The dorms are very basic.

So many great things say about Surfnest: The view from the rooftop deck is stunning. Zicatela market right across the street has everything you need including affordable good restaurants with an ocean view. Hammocks and comfortable furniture for lounging by the pool or elsewhere on the property. The kitchen with a fridge and freezer are well taken care of and available all day. The manager also makes really good coffee and offers toast, pastry, and sometimes fruit. So kind! The room has good air conditioning and comfortable private beds and a bathroom. The location is quiet but central to both the Zicatela strip and La punta. But most of all the staff is so excellent. JC, the manager, takes care of the hostel and guests as if this were his home. All the staff is like family and spend time together during the day. Not a single complaint. I would come back in a heartbeat.
