Teufelskrallen Lodge

The most amazing thing about this lodge is the location. The tented rooms are built on the crest of a dune, with a beautiful view over the desert and with enough privacy from the next tent. You have to drive a couple of kilometers on a sandy track to reach the room but it is totally doable even with a normal car. The bathroom is separated from the tent by a wooden bridge and very basic but that is part of the experience, it is a desert camp, after all! The temperature really dropped in the night but the lodge provided thick blankets so it was not cold to sleep. The staff were lovely, the food was good (you have to drive back to the reception for dinner and breakfast, or it is also possible to walk, if you fancy it). We only stayed one night and arrived quite late in the afternoon, so didn't have time to enjoy the pool or to try any of the activities that they offer.

Very helpful security guards who went out of their way to help me change tents in the middle of the night and check on me to make sure I was safe.

I arrived around 6pm from Lüderitz after a 6+ hour drive. Nobody had informed me that you have to check in at a different place (main building). Stood at a locked gate and had to go back 3km on a gravel road. After checking in it was nearly time for dinner so I waited. No shower for me at this point. Later I had to drive to the tents alone in the dark via a sand path, got lost, drove up and down until I found my tent. Tent couldn’t be locked from the inside and neither could the veranda door. Tent was hot like an oven and no AC. No TV either and no WiFi. Toilet and shower in an outhouse. Due to an armed robbery which took place here less than 7 days ago (see another review) I was seriously concerned about my safety especially since my doors couldn’t be locked. Found the guards who helped me change tents. Got to the new tent at 1pm and couldn’t sleep all night. This is the most inconvenient lodge I’ve ever been to and I would not recommend to stay here.

NEVER MORE AGAIN! I was violently assaulted violently right at my bed while i was sleeping. That was bloody terrifying experience. While i was sleeping 3-4 guys opened violently my door, get inside jumped on me starting strangling , fighting and tieding me up with my own shoelaces and robbed all my stuff. Money cash, credit cards, watch, passport, wedding ring, car key, stole my rucksak. After struggling on bed with them, one of them stragled me until i had seen some white mirages i completelly tired, almost blackouted i stayed on the floor lying down, tied up (hand behind my back, legs, blinfolded and towel in my mouth) completelly tired, scared to death...

Totally unprofesional! The lodge guard left the property because started the rain (absolutelly unacceptable) maybe he knew the invaders...Nobody from lodge asked me how i was feeeling, do you think the owner was interesting what happened to his client? Not, anything... any recompension??? I am tour leader i had money for financing my Namibian tour, many troubles and nightmare... There is no security cameras, the fence can jump over small kid, door locker again small kid can opens it easily guard terrifying the rain...
