Amazing location. The owners were very nice.

I had an incredible experience here, would highly recommend! Everyone is extremely kind and helpful, the food is delicious and fresh, there are comfortable common areas with lots of couches and tables, my room was quite large with a comfortable bed and a gorgeous view out the window. You could not ask for a better location for winter activities--there are lots of trails for skiing, you can go over the mountains to the woods to cross-country ski, and the landscape is absolutely breathtaking. During my stay, I was able to attend the Ice Music festival in an igloo just in front of the hotel, and see ice sculptures by a local artist along the trails. I could not have asked for a better experience. Just make sure to plan ahead for a car or taxi from Ål since the buses don't reach that far up the mountain. I can't recommend it enough, I had such a beautiful stay and hope that I can come back!

Very disappointed with the dinner.

It is great location in the middle of "nowhere" - more of a ski resort I understand. So I kind of expected the hotel and accommodation to suit i.e to be more basic which it was. The food (separate and not included in booking) was exceptional! great chef and the waitresses were also very good. The owner and his mrs were very accommodating given I got the booking details wrong (forgot to add our 2 teenagers) but sorted out our room. It had a lounge with lots to keep us entertained in the evening and the sauna overlooking the lake was phenomenal. We also took a morning walk to discover the small waterfalls on the river that feeds the lake.

I think the accommodation is pricey for what it is (more hostel than hotel room). Bathroom was small but did the job for an overnight stay.
