Whitworth Locke

This hotel is beautiful, charming, calm and just simply stunning. I actually cannot put into words how lovely it was to spend the night here. Everything at your disposal, right in the middle of everything, beautiful rooms and comfortable beds. My new go-to when I'm in Manchester!

This is a great place to stay in Central Manchester. It felt very safe and has bar and cafe/restaurant as well as basic self catering facilities in the room. We had a basement room which was a little dark but as we were only staying one night this wasn’t too much of a problem. The staff are very pleasant and helpful, and the rooms are clean.

Location great Reception friendly and helpful But in general online management of booking unhelpful and inaccurate would take my cc details prior to check in for any pending payments other than pre paid room rate but then at check in have no record of them on file - irritating why ask? Also asked for guests names, we told them several times only two people in Whitworth suite extra bed not needed, gave them all that info several times before check in and arrived and extra bed in room that wasn’t needed at all. Probably been charged for that ..but reception too busy when we checked out just handed keys and put in basket and left - basked unmanned No follow up saying we had checked out

Loved the room: stylish decor, great shower, lovely products in the bathroom, loads of space (we were in a one bedroom suite on the top floor) and well equipped kitchenette. There was quite a bit of noise from people outside the bars on canal street, but it was a Saturday night so to be expected. If you’re a light sleeper and staying at the weekend you might want earplugs. The communal spaces in the hotel are also really nicely designed and the staff were helpful and friendly. The only disappointment was the breakfast. We paid for the breakfast deal, expecting we’d be able to choose from the foundation coffee menu linked to from the hotel website, however it seems the cafe now only serves a much more limited breakfast menu. The food was still good value (for £15 we got a very nice pastry, scrambled eggs on good sourdough toast, coffee and orange juice and a slightly unnecessary side of extra sourdough toast due to confusing ordering system!) but not what we expected from the menu online, which had things like potato hash and brioche french toast. The ordering experience also left much to be desired. We asked what the breakfast deal included and were told to select some options on a touch screen. It was confusing (hence ending up with unwanted extra toast as it wasn’t clear that the eggs came with this) and made the experience quite rushed and impersonal. When we mentioned this on checking out, the receptionist said the hotel has recently taken over the cafe and it’s no longer run by foundation coffee, so that’s why the menu has changed. But this isn’t clear at all from the website which on the weekend we stayed still says it’s foundation coffee. Not a huge deal, but just a bit of a disappointment at the end of an otherwise lovely one night stay.

Very modern and cosy place, lighting in the common areas are spot on and make you feel at home, the hotel rooms have plenty of space and are extremely tidy.

PROS – great staff and service, good location, contemporary modern décor all throughout (lobby, shared spaces, room), lots of closet space in the room, good amenities in the room (iron, hair drier, kettle, adjustable heater, dishes and utensils), room had great blackout curtains CONS – just one con but it was a big one for me. The noise. Two sources – First; an overhead vent operated until 10pm (then switched off) and on again from 5.45am. I had travelled and was tired and ready for an early night (pre-10pm). I asked staff earlier in the evening and they were great and helpful, in the sense that they let me know it would switch off at 10pm, so it was good to know the end was coming. I forgot to ask about start time in the morning, so the 5.45am noise was a surprise. I mentioned to staff when I checked out and they said they'd add a note to my file and next time, would put me in a different room, which was kind of them. Be warned, certain rooms seem to have this overhead vent and ear plugs are a must. Second source; street noise outside my window because my room was next to a garage entrance and seemed to be a place where trucks came to park, idle, turn around etc. This started from 5.30am. Again, staff were great - I whatsapped from my room at 5.50am and someone immediately bought me earplugs. Even with those, I could hear the street noise so that was tough. I'm not sure that I would stay here again just because of that. I'm not a light sleeper, not heavy either – something in the middle, but lack of sleep is a biggy for me. There were loads of pros and if someone figures out any better rooms from the noise perspective (e.g. not ground floor? not facing a certain way?) then this place is 100% terrific, just for me, noise was a massive issue hence 3 stars unfortunately. This hotel is so aesthetic. I love everything about it from the lobby reception to the rooms. Even the most basic studio rooms are amazing. I always recommend this place to everyone I know!

Stylish, comfortable and well-located with friendly helpful staff. Rooms quite dark but otherwise great.

Absolute fantastic place to stay very clean had everything I needed and in the heart of everything..

Wish I could've stayed longer but was just a quick overnight trip. Perfect beautifully kept quiet room perfect location. Couldn't have asked for a better place & for the price can't b beat... Definitely be back
