I'd describe this as a hotel with enormous potential. The old, extended building and it's beautiful surroundings could be something fabulous, but it needs a ton of money spent on it to get there. The staff were all extremely helpful and kind. The breakfast and evening meal both great. The property is just quite tired, and in most areas feels like it has been put together on a pretty tight budget. Everywhere was perfectly clean - a big comfort certainly - but the furniture, decor, bathroom, fabric of the rooms, all just had a dated feel and in many areas (such as the rotting wood around the bathroom door frame) just crying out for some TLC. If the room rate was half the price I'd award it a much higher score, but at this price there are much better rooms around...

GBNice old building with an interesting history. Still has the remains of a large walled garden that you can walk around. Staff were very friendly and the food was really good - breakfast and dinner. Ensuite was a bit cramped but everything was clean.
Small issue with the window handle but the owner said they were carrying out further upgrades within weeks. No complaints otherwise.
GBThis is a really comfortable hotel with lots of character. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful which made the experience so positive. We ate dinner there and it was very good. Our room was spacious and comfortable and had obviously had some refurbishment recently. Keeping a big old building like this running must have its challenges and I wish them all the best in the future. We would definitely return if we were in the area. Oh, and it’s also very, very dog friendly (they obviously love dogs), which was brilliant.

The only thing I would personally like is a bar area. Drinks are served to you in the lounge which is great service but I prefer to sit at a bar. I mean, that's not really a complaint!
