OYO Eastbank Hotel, Speyside Scotland

It was grungy and I had an attic room with a staircase so steep you had to climb it on hands and knees. The toilet was on the floor below; middle of the night visits were too dangerous to even try.

Staff was exceptional. Our taxi issue was immediately solved. We felt welcomed as if we were the only guests. The woman at reception took time to share helpful information . Thank you!

The hotel needs a bit of a face-lift.....

This was probably the worst hotel experience I have ever had, and as someone who stays in hostels a lot it’s not as if my standards are extremely high. There was no door handle on the inside of the bathroom, meaning you could not close and lock the door when using the toilet or shower without then being locked inside and requiring someone’s help to open the door from the outside. This was a major issue for me as a young female travelling solo because it was a shared bathroom and the other guests using the bathroom were all older men. I was therefore unable to shower during my stay and I had to visit another local hotel to use their bathroom during my stay. The room I booked was advertised as having a private bathroom, this was false advertisement as the “private bathroom” was simply a sink in our room and the toilet/shower facilities were shared. I would certainly never have paid the money I did for a shared shower and toilet. Let alone one that was unusable due to having no door handle, but also had a shower hanging off the wall, none of the toiletries advertised and no sanitary bin in the bathroom for period products. The staff were aware of all issues but said they had no way of repairing the door that day and that there were no other facilities I could use because the hotel was fully booked. They also said that the advertising of a private bathroom was a booking.com issue that they would notify booking.com of. They did finally put some soap and body wash in the bathroom 12 hours after I had highlighted the issue. The level of customer service I felt was unacceptable as paying over £100 per night to have no access to a toilet or shower is shocking. I would encourage everyone to double check before booking if they want a private bathroom.

Very quaint hotel. The staff were amazing. Loved the wee pub, choices of scotch whiskey, and the food. The village of Rothes made for easy access to distilleries and enjoying the area. I would stay again.

Quaint. Close to everything. We choose for proximity and cost. Our room was clean and comfortable. It was unseasonably warm so our room was quite warm. We could open windows for some cross ventilation, which helped. There is a reason, though, that there are complementary earplugs on the bedside tables. They have an incredible whiskey selection from the Speyside area and folks there were very friendly and hospitable.
