Domaine de Labarthe

During three weeks in Southern France we stayed at several excellent private residences with available breakfast and other amenities. I would recommend three of those for travelers with specific interests. Only Domaine de Labarthe qualifies as a fully satisfying destination in itself. Through a gate in the estate wall you approach the repurposed and renovated winery buildings to the single-story Country estate residence. My wife quickly fell in love with the opulently furnished and decorated large room with two sets of double swing windows opening to views of the pool, formal gardens, and pigeon house 30 meters distant from the room’s 4 meter ceilings. I walked the extensive grounds noticing wild vines remaining from the period decades back when the owners’ ancestors converted the vineyards to nut groves. Breakfast on the patio among hundred year old olive trees recently imported from Spain. A walk among the hundreds of rose bushes in the formal garden. Yoga and cooking classes available in the summer. I mean seriously, unbelievable. If you have one romantic bone in your body you will love this place. An extensive improvement effort is underway making an already excellent experience even better. I travel a lot and I travel well. Do not miss this experience.
