"Only Gone A Day And I Already Miss It"

10.0

Spent five nights in this lovely place with a small textile tour group. Not a single complaint. What a wonderful stay we had. Jenna’s is unique. Each cabin or yurt has an individual personality, with many fun personal touches. Ours (Jaguar) had a giant rock in the bathroom, vintage art, and cool wooden carvings as door handles which were (!!!) hand carved vintage slingshots. The views were breath taking. Just gorgeous and soul filling. The restaurant was excellent, the included breakfast tasty, and the cooks happily showed me how to properly prep and fry plantains. I’ve had them before and they were meh, but these were to die for. I’m a fan for life now. Our dinners there were also delicious. Transportation was easy via tuktuk, and there was a ton of interesting things to do and places to visit within short tuktuk or launcha (water bus) rides. But really, the best think was kicking back with the delicious coffee and watching the lake at any time of the day. Everyone in staff was just lovely, and very helpful. I’m already begging my family to plan a family get together here, and several other members of our group said the same. Only warning I’d give, if anyone in your group is ….less than agile…..either ask for one of the top two units (which still entail a number of steps) or see if perhaps the funicular has been repaired. Jenna’s is built down the side of a very steep hill, and can be an intimidating climb to your unit or the restaurant for people who have difficulty with stairs.

Yvan the manager was absolutely phenomenal. He took care of us from the time we buzzed in after the private car drove us from Antigua and booked every minute of our stay from the time we woke up to bed time. He made all transportation arrangements and even paid less than half the price for a premium driver back to the Guatemala airport. He arranged the best meals. Constantly had drinks and food delivered to our room amd last but not least on last day extended our stay till 4 pm so we could book the 90 min reflexology and 2 hour massages. Ok I have to admit that him growing up near me north of Montreal Quebec and speaking several languages fluent didn’t hurt. Oh we sampled some of the best IPA ever. My wife and I cannot wait to call Yvan to set up another trip. We even invited him to our house in Tampa for his next vacation. What a great place but it takes a great leader to make it happen. He treats his staff very well and we arranged for everyone on the facilities, including the kitchen staff and the room cleaners to get a proper tip. And Yvan made all the arrangements with them directly without having to stop by a single ATM. 5 star service in Panajachel Guatemala. Now that was a new one for me having been there for the past 35 years. It grew quite a bit. I recommend reconsidering hiking St Pedro Volcano alone in less than 5 hours which we did 12 miles of climbing that day on our watches. Maybe go slower or learn that we are getting a bit older. Thanks so much. Ciao. Mario

"Great views, close to town"

8.0

We stayed for 4 nights in the Tecolote ( Owl) room at the top of the stairs. The website is very accurate with the photos but our room definitely seemed smaller than I imagined. We had a fantastic view of the volcanoes being at the this. The hotel is full of stairs and some rooms don’t have a view. Mari and Yvan were great helping us to get tuk tuk to town and setting up excursions and such. The staff was friendly and nice. The breakfast included with your stay every morning was delicious but I found the menu to be uninspired I guess. There was cuisine for everyone on there (quesadillas, pastas, fish, etc). I wish it had been more Guatemalan I guess. We were at the top of the stairs, as the website said - bring earplugs - because we could hear EVERYTHING! Our neighbors showering etc, cars and things passing above, conversations, neighbors. The walls were very very thing. The bed was super uncomfortable and the pillows very flat. The shower had no door so the water went everywhere. Fresh clean water was provided daily which was great. We also arranged to have to have massages and those were fantastic, but of course the noise of everyone beeping in, cars, work being done, was distracting. We hung out by the pool one afternoon which was quite nice, it wasn’t warm enough to go in but we laid and relaxed. It was nice to be about 10 minutes outside the hustle and bustle of town. They have trusted driver Lino who can help get you to and from town. If he’s not available, he’ll send his son or a friend. Very easy to get around you just have to plan a few minutes in advance. Overall decent experience but the beds seriously need to be replaced.

"Away from the hustle and bustle of Panajachel"

10.0

An excellent location to say especially if you are lucky enough to get one of the rooms higher up which have better views. Although some distance from town, transport is usually available within 10 minutes. Coffee and a small fridge in the room would make the stay even better. After a long day sightseeing it might be hard to get motivated to go back into town to eat. The restaurant is adequate but after a few days a nightly special would be welcome to vary things up a bit.

Very beautiful. Staff was great. It is gated where only guests can enter. Great breakfast. We were a bit noisy in the night (around midnight). We were kindly asked to keep it down. We took our conversations inside and were not asked again. It's good to know they do a good job of ensuring a good experience for all.
