Areca Bungalow

The staff and owner we accommodating. I arrived very early and they were able to clean a room stat to accommodate me. I borrowed their bike and bike around town to see the rice paddies and the locals. Highly recommend to stay here.

This hotel is very well priced and located for exploring the caves in the Phong Nha area. The staff is very friendly. Language was a bit of a challenge. They arranged transport for us from our hotel outside of Hue and also to the airport in Dong Hoi when we left at prices comparable to Grab. Our room looked out over the river so had nice views. Unfortunately, the restaurant is also right there so noise and privacy was a bit of a factor. The food at the restaurant for dinner was good

The shower does not have a drain in it. The drain is on the other side of the bathroom under the sink. Therefore, you could not shower without getting the entire bathroom floor flooded with water from the shower. We chose to do sink baths only instead, which was not ideal for a 2 night stay, after exploring the caves. The room has a kettle but no coffee cups. We brought our own coffee and filter but had to use bathroom glasses.

Yen was a great host, very accommodating and responsive. She invited us to a family dinner on the second night because of the new year holiday coming up and that was really nice.

The shower doesn’t fully drain so the floor takes a while to dry and the hot water doesn’t last for one person to shower but it’s a great value nonetheless.

Absolutely amazing hosts! So kind and friendly, and a pleasure to share the home stay with the family. They arranged both our tour around the Phong Nha national park, as well as transport from Dong Hoi to Phong Nha. Lovely view of the river and surrounding mountains.

It was a lovely location on the river. The accommodation is basic but clean and great value. The host is very helpful. The breakfast was good. The rooms have kettles and fridges.

There was nowhere to put your clothes in the room, just the bed and 2 chairs

Nice and spacious room, friendly and helpful staff. We stayed here after our 2d/1n trip with Oxalis, and the location was awesome -- just next door! The two staff ladies there when I arrived didn't speak much English, but they video-called someone who spoke perfect English (and helped us the next morning). We asked if they had somewhere we could wash our muddy shoes and they took them and cleaned and dried them for us overnight for a very reasonable fee. Breakfast was excellent.

Some drain blockage issues in the bathroom sink and shower; there was a lot of water on the floor after we both showered but we used the provided sandals.

The location was very good. Next to Oxalis office. I stayed for only one night, so I didn’t get to fully enjoy the bungalow. The breakfast was ok.

There was a smell of humidity in the room. The shower drainage was located on the opposite side of the bathroom, causing the bathroom to flood after taking a shower. It didn’t drain properly, which created puddles.
