The breakfast amazing. The preparation exquisite

This was a repeat visit to Villa Adalbert and as always it was another exceptional stay, with Mario and his wonderful team going above and beyond to make it a truly special place to stay. The rooms are all exquisitely decorated and provide all the comforts needed to make it feel like home from home. The breakfasts are not only delicious but beautifully presented using fresh produce, some of which is from the garden and eggs from the resident chickens. We always feel very welcomed by Mario who goes out of his way to provide wonderful hospitality, and we are very lucky to have found such an amazing place for relaxation, comfort and tranquility.

Breakfast was amazing and very fresh. Great location with a stunning view of the mountain. Absolutely amazing garden and vegetable garden. Mario was very welcoming and super helpful. It is the best guesthouse I have ever stayed in. I highly recommend staying here!

This is a difficult review to write simply because I’m not sure how to do our dear host, Mario, justice. To say the stay was perfect would be a gross understatement. It’s been a few days since we returned from Villa Aldalbert, and I am still in awe of how Mario and his villa was by far the best possible foil imaginable to our adventures in Cape Town. Everything about his guesthouse amplified our experience—from the impeccably clean, well-curated furnishings and decor, to the architecture and layout of the cottage and gorgeous pool, to the beautiful gardens with a multitude of herbs and veggies, to Speedy, the feisty tortoise, and his pals Woody and Luna the most excitable, goodest doggos ever, the list goes on and on and on. After Mario gave us a tour of the grounds on the day we arrived, I legit turned to my traveling companion and told her: “I’m totally cool staying here the rest of our trip… I don’t need to see anything else.” (despite traveling 40 hrs on two planes and one long layover to get to Cape Town…notably also our first time on the continent). Thankfully, Mario convinced us that we shouldn’t turn down the opportunity for a safari game drive just because we loved his breakfast so much (this was a real conversation! we told him we were going to cancel because we didn’t want to miss his delicious food)! Mario was graciousness embodied, and his kindness, enthusiasm, and pride for the experience he was providing us was obvious in every interaction we had with him. Although Villa Adalbert is beyond words the best accommodation I’ve probably ever been to, the real gem was Mario—never overbearing, but always there whenever we (didn’t know) we needed him. Do not hesitate to go for a stay with him at his Villa—you will not regret it. Thank you SO MUCH, Mario!! I hope to see you and all of your backyard animal friends again!

Villa Adalbert is perfect. The attention to detail to make sure that you have a wonderful stay is amazing. Mario and his team provide an excellent, friendly and efficient service and nothing is too much trouble. They have thought of everything to make sure that you have all the home comforts, including a pillow choice! The breakfasts are delicious and beautifully presented with a great selection, freshly prepared by Mario using where possible home grown produce from his vegetable garden and eggs from his chickens. It’s lovely to have a choice of places to enjoy the breakfast, in the gardens, outside our cottage or in the house depending on the weather. Ivy Cottage where we stayed was beautifully decorated, very comfortable and private. The gardens are stunning and there is a lovely area to relax by the swimming pool. A little piece of heaven for a relaxing getaway.

Where to start? Every single moment is a treat in this very special house: the warm welcome, the beautiful rooms (which is more like a little house!), the very tasteful decoration all over Villa Adalbert, the little thoughtful things (like a painkiller, sunscreen and even a stain remover if necessary), the extraordinary breakfast, the beautiful gardens, the spotless cleanliness … I could go on and on. This was our 4th visit and it definitely won’t be the last one. We travelled a lot through South Africa, but this is by far one of the best guesthouses you can find. The host Mario is unbeatable! We sure love that place and if we are in South Africa, we sure find our way to Villa Adalbert, because it’s like coming home!

There is nothing!

This is the second time we’ve stayed and once again Mario gave a masterclass of being the perfect host. The rooms and outside spaces to relax and enjoy are delightful and breakfast is perfection. If you need to stay in Somerset West, look no further.
