Yala Wild House

Beautiful, authentic and wild place right next to the safari park. The host is fantastic, really kind and welcoming and made great food!! The place is rustic but very clean and all adds to the feeling of being immersed in the jungle.

This is a beautiful place. It reflects the energy and imagination of the owners. These guys really know how to cook and the food is excellent. They worked very hard to make sure that I was happy.

It's really important to know that this is a VERY basic accommodation. You have electricity for a couple of hours each day. There is no hot water or wifi. Bats, etc. can get into you room at night. Mosquito nets are there to offer some protection. There is not a lot to do at Yala Wild Camp so bring friends so you can hang out together. I am a solo traveler and there were no other guests.The price is also very high for what they offer.

- Friendly staff who tried their best giving us a nice stay! Carrying our bags and removing several frogs from our room - We enjoyed the music they performed for us: great vibes! - Very remote experience in the middle of nature and very nice vegatable garden which they showed us.

We're writing this review not to be negative but just to share our experience as some was great but some was also absolutely not good. - We had to pay some money in advance so the guys could buy strong liquor. - We did a safari wich was nice but the Jeep was absolutely terrible: no suspension (so bumpy!!). Also the driver barely spoke any English which was extremely frustrating with misunderstandings and questions. - Room was ok but full of animals (ofcourse as you're in the jungle) but the matress is only 1.80M (not ideal) - They promised breakfast (we ended up paying ourself, included lunch at the safari (they tried charching us but eventually agreed on no-charge) and free drop-off (we ended up paying 3000 rupees for a TukTuk). - Room is very overpriced in our opinion

The breakfast was balanced and hearty, typical Sri Lankan fare The location was exceptional, a bit far from the center, but absolutely in the wilderness, you couldn't wish for better. The hosts were lovely and the rooms were like in the 70s, still built with lem and a huge tree grew through the middle of the bathroom. Very, very special and recommended to anyone who likes adventure

There is absolutely nothing to complain about, simply amazing

Very welcome host from the very beginning! We booked everything on site with him. Simple breakfast but delicious and freshly made!. Dimmer was extraordinary! We had quiet some rain bur the host helped us a lot to get back to the village after our stay!

Priyantha and his family gave us an experience we will never forget.The family was extremely friendly and hospitable and Priyantha and his son,Hansa,went above and beyond with their care for us. Communication after booking was excellent. As the location is off the main road and up a challenging but fun dirt track we were met at Yoda lake and followed Hansa to the accommodation,which is located 10 yards from the perimeter of Yala National park. As we were driving our rented Tuktuk,Priyantha and Hansa kindly drove us back to the local town and main roads at the end of our stay. We stayed 4 nights in an authentic mud house which is set in a wonderfully designed woodland setting.Rooms are very private,extremely peaceful and away from all the tourists. Priyantha provided plenty of excellent healthy food as and when you wanted it,you will not go hungry here.A fire was set for us to sit round every evening with the host providing authentic live music after dinner.Three of the healthiest and friendliest dogs belong to the family and will gladly lead you on the many walks available from the property. We saw an abundance of wildlife on the local walks,monkeys,deer,eagles,crocodiles to name but a few.Priyantha kindly took us traditional rod fishing,net fishing,to a secret beach where we were the only two people and were lucky enough to see an elephant very close to the beach in addition to a visit to a local monastery and local temple which had a unique twist.A full day safari tour was also organised by Priyantha with his very experienced and friendly driver,at a very reasonable price.We simply cannot recommend Yala wild house and farm high enough if your willing to embrace an experience never to be forgotten. Thank you Priyantha,Hansa,Loki,driver and family,you all went above and beyond to provide us with the most amazing experience.
