We have stayed many times in Kuhtai and skied passed this quirky “resort” but never actually stayed. We were travelling from Solden so decided to stay overnight to see what Kuhtai was like in March compared to our usual stay pre-Christmas stay in December. Checking into the hotel I was quite excited by how original, warm, cosy and welcoming it looked. Then the receptionist said we were staying in a building across the road at Kuhtaier Hof so initially I was a little disappointed as the hotel looked so lovely. However, we were not disappointed. The room was all newly renovated, beautiful bathroom, comfortable bed and it was a lovely touch having a kettle with tea and coffee in the room (not often the case in Austria!) It really is a ski in/ski out hotel and it has a lovely outdoor area to sit and enjoy and Aperol spritz. Breakfast in the hotel (where reception was) was lovely – so much choice and very fresh. We didn’t have dinner in the hotel, we ate out at the Dorfstadl about 15 minutes up the hill – a lovely restaurant/bar with fabulous staff and great food and a lovely atmosphere. We were disappointed the hotel bar wasn’t open as it looked so lovely on the website and the hotel restaurant did look very cosy and inviting, but the menu was more than we wanted to pay. The pizza restaurant was also closed sadly. Snow conditions were a little poor for March (which surprised me) and the village in the evening was extremely quiet. Having only stayed in Kuhtai previously in December when the snow is fresh and the start of the ski season, I think we much preferred December when the there’s more atmosphere. We would definitely stay here again as the room and breakfast were perfect and the location is great for skiing, but the staff need to be a little more welcoming and it would be 5* from me.

We spent 5 nights here over new year's. Very cosy hotel, perfect for a mountain stay. Ski lifts just across the road or a bit further down on same side. I only rated 4 stars because the service in the restaurant was chaotic, either very slow or disorganized. The waiters only seemed to be friendly when trying to sell additional drinks, as we'd already paid for half-board. Nevertheless, the food was excellent, the rooms very clean and the beds comfortable. The saunas are a little small but it's not a huge hotel. Guests staying at the 3-Seen Hotel accross the street need to cross over to use the ski room and restaurant so take into consideration if you want to book an apartment there. There is only one small convenience store in the village which is outrageously expensive so stock up before you drive up.

We received a brochure from the hotel with a “winter wonderland angebot”. I took three weeks, three E-mails and a phone call to get a message back from the hotel with a confirmation, but at more than double the price mentioned in the brochure. I send a message back that this is not what is in the brochure, unfortunately no response from Jagdschloss since… Bit of a shame, because we had a good time there two years ago.

Rooms are nothing like described. Dark, small, dirty, cheap-material with low ceiling and tiny windows. Do not believe the pictures they provide - they make them up. No floor-to-ceiling windows at that place. Managers (may be the owners) are unprofessional bunch of people, screaming and throwing papers to the guests. When mentioned that they provided incorrect room info (size, bedrooms etc) and , the answer was “not important” and walking away. Cleaning was absent during our stay. Breakfast is average. Service in restaurant is poor, unsmiling and unfriendly. We were so happy to leave. Do not let yourself to fool you up.

Have just left Kuhtai and our stay at the Jagdschloss Hotel. Don’t go expecting a normal hotel, this historic building has been used as a hotel for hundreds of years and the rooms whilst not huge are beautiful and functional. The staff and service were impeccable and general ambiance of the hotel was so welcoming and just “Cool” in a non corporate cookie cutter way many hotels today do today! Being at the bottom of the hill certainly called for some exertion to get to the top and experience the other restaurants the village has to offer but that was fine as the walk home downhill is easy!
