Bakenskraal Ostrich Palace

The guest house was as expected and the staff were fantastic. Great evening meal was cooked for us as well. Lets hope they pay the staff well so they keep them.

We were lead to believe that this was an Ostrich Farm. This is far from the truth - it use to be a diary farm and they have put a couple of ostriches in a large pen a short distance from the house. They offered an ostrich tour around the farm which we booked for as thought would be lots of fun only to find out we would have to drive 12 km to a large well known tourist ostrich farm - this is not what we expected and hence didn't go. We only then found out that both were part of the same business.

Charlene was an absolute treasure!! Despite the problems encountered with,TV, hot water, blocked drains.....she made our stay wonderful with her sunny demeanour and fantastic cooking skills.

Poor maintenance. Such a shame as it could be absolutely beautiful, given time, staff and a lot of maintenance. I cannot comment Charlene enough on her people skills and steering around the problems. She is an asset!!!

The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. You get the feeling that their sole mission in life is to make guests happy. Charlene welcomed us when we were not in the best mood after 7 hours in the car and arranged a wonderful evening in town for us, which improved our spirit tremendously. Because of Charlene and Adri, we also experienced a real South African braai on our second evening there. We will be forever grateful for this experience and their friendly attitude, which made our stay at Bakenskraal Ostrich Palace one of the unexpected highlights of our South Africa trip. I almost forgot to mention the delicious breakfast we enjoyed each morning. We also had no problems due to load shedding, as the property now apparently has solar electricity and battery system. Without Charlene and Adri, the rating would probably have been a point or two lower.

The building and property itself are nice, but they would benefit from some additional investment. There is much less greenery and much more dirt than the pictures suggest.

Charlene and her team were very welcoming and helpfull! we really enjoyed our stay in ths Unique, Victorian style, place. Higly recommendable!
