No.10 Kyoto House

It had a beautiful traditional feel while still having all the modern comforts. Great amount of space, perfect for a small family or a couple. At the end of each day, we looked forward to getting to getting back to relax. We wish we left Tokyo earlier just to stay here for longer!

A minor annoyance was that the shower required you to sit on a stool and hang your head over the bath, but the bath more than made up for this. The doorways are incredibly low. At 6'1 I ended up hitting my head a lot, but that was due to chasing a toddler around.

Beautiful house and interior, there is everything you need, they floorings are heated as well. Made us feel like we are living the culture.

One futon per bed wasn't very comfortable. Guests should have the option of double futon mattresses as a single futon was very hard. The house was unfortunately very dark, even on a bright day. We were disappointed to have to have lights on during the daytime. Although comfortable for 3 it was rather tight for four unrelated individual adults. We also seemed to only have 3 large towels for four people.

Charming location and uniquely Kyoto feel.

Bathroom ceiling was covered in mould, which could be smelled throughout the whole place. The bathroom never dried out, which made towels et al constantly damp as well. For some reason there wasn't any hand soap for the toilet hand basins, which means if you went upstairs you had to go downstairs to the bathroom to wash your hands. All of the doorways are much lower than they need to be, which can be uncomfortable, as were the very highly pitched stairs. This might be why the walls in the staircase were so scuffed. The laundry had hangers for wet clothes but no-where to hang them except inside the cupboard (with your dry clothing). Entry was controlled by a pin code which changed every day at noon, meaning we constantly had to check our phone when returning to the apartment. The living room had one single chair. One. Otherwise there were only cushions; not even a legless tatami style chair. These would all be minor annoyances but combined together, when paying $500 a night, it felt very unwelcoming and poor value.

The apartment style was beautiful and exactly what we were looking for in Kyoto. It was about 10 minutes walking from Kyoto station and only 3-4 minutes from the local trains, so not too far. However, the area was quiet and had many local restaurants to try nearby.

Home like comfortable stay. Traditional Japanese style.

Close but not closer enough to everywhere, not much to see around hotel. Price is relatively higher and usual for people of 2.

The apartment we had is pretty and fairly big, divided into two floors. Everything was clean and well maintained. The staff helpful. The neighborhood is interesting and well connected

The apartment has absolutely no outside view. It feels a bit to be closed in. The beds where not really comfortable. The futons where too thin and the blankets where strange, ((they are not evenly filled) and air-conditioning blows directly on your head

The location was excellent, fairly close to Kyoto station and the metro, easy to get to places . The design of the place was traditional , yet modern.
