American Inn and Suites

Room smelled like sewage. Blood handprints all over our bathroom door. Black hairs in the sheets. Realized when we got home we left our handgun in the nightstand. Called office to let them know as our sister was just leaving and wanted to grab it. They gave her the key to get it and it wasn’t in the room. We called back and they stressed it wasn’t there and the room had already been clean, that they never touch people’s belongings without calling them first, said they’d call if it appears and hung up. Upon the third call (us calling again) we told them we would be filing a police report and the lady on the phone told us she’d call right back and she will get Sam- the manager. She calls back (Within 2 minutes) to give him the phone and he confirms the gun was under the mattress close to the window. First, we have NEVER put anything under a mattress. Two, that’s where my 12 year old son was sleeping. Nice to know when you threaten to call the law they give you your belongings back. Sneaky, lying, dirty, thieving people.

Our room had a smell of cat pee when we got there late at night. I had Fabreez in the car and sprayed it all around. I woke up in the night with that horrible stench heavy in the air! Ugh. Sickening. I turned the heater down and that helped some. I cannot even imagine what causes such a disgusting odor because the room looks clean. The bed was comfortable and the owner could not have been nicer. But that SMELL! The floors are all warped but I can get over that. Room 5 is a NO GO! We are staying another night. I’m asking to move.

If you are looking for a place to crash this will suffice. Very basic and sometimes on the weekend it is the only option. Bed was comfortable, my room seemed clean and staff was polite and helpful. Breakfast buffet wasn't much but was good for a cup of coffee, banana and bowl of cereal.

They didn't have our confirmed booking! Made excuses that Booking.com didn't update but we had the confirmation e-mail with us... We stayed the night because there was NO where else to stay but it was dirty and musty but the worst was waking up in the middle of the night because of the smell!!! It was definitely cat pee even though the carpets seemed fairly new. They must have carpeted over the smell... It has bee YEARS since we stayed in a motel without a hair dryer and this was it. Stay in another town and come here to fish if it is that great of fishing but DON'T stay here.

Look, if you are just going fishing the next day this is probably an OK place to stay. The rooms are "well worn." On the morning (approximately 0515) of 02/17 I went to Darren (front desk) and told him that my room access lock did not work. It was ROOM #103 or #106? When you left the room and closed the door it DID NOT LOCK. Darren told me it would be fixed. I arrived back at my room at approximately 1430 that day and it was NOT FIXED. What does that mean? My room was basically open for most of the day on Saturday. I am pleased that nothing was stolen. If you are allergic to carpet this would be a good place to stay. The floors are TILE. I also had to struggle with moving the television cabinet since the electrical outlet was behind the television cabinet. The continental breakfast was lame also. I will try Holiday Inn or Best Western if I ever return to Port Lavaca. I stayed here for the MATAGORDA BIRD FEST in Palacios. I will say this. The employees were friendly= DARREN and the overnight female (elderly) front desk clerk.

No phone in room. No WiFi network. Hard mattress. Tv remote didn't work. Uneven floor. Good location. Probably the best hotel the area can offer. Hotel is run by people from India. No breakfast at all in lounge. In fact, the lounge offers no extra services such as no free information about events in the area. Good shower though and overall comfortable enough place to stay.

I stay here when I fish in port o connor, which is the only thing to do in this town. It has been updated, it is very clean,quiet, the staff are very nice, big parking lot for your boat, close to everything, sat. tv, ac/heat , plus a reasonable price, make this a great choice.

The American Inn & Suites has the advantage of being a block from the harbor. That's the good part. The towels were thin, the bed tilted up when I sat on the end, the room smelled musty from the air conditioning which never shuts off, the TV dated from the '80s. If I'd had a choice, I would have gone elsewhere.

With hotel options VERY limited in Port O'Connor, this hotel served it's purpose. We were there for an all day fishing trip so our stay was brief. It's a clean room, hot shower and friendly staff; don't expect much more.

Couldn't find a phone in room, blood on sheets and not mine. The roach that came in from under the door freaked me out the most when a/c cuts off I could it in room! It was better than sleeping in my car.
