Strahan House

The property is in a wonderful location, 200m from the cafe and restaurants of North Hobart. The off street carpark at front of the property was convenient and big enough for a compact-medium sized car. The property is charming, nicely decorated, beds comfortable, and the property mostly well cleaned.

Unfortunately the owners of the property were extremely difficult to contact which caused a lot of worry before our arrival. The owners would not my return multiple attempts to contact them until after a week of attempts the matter was becoming very urgent, so one day prior to my group’s travel I finally had to escalate that with the Booking.com customer service line. Although the owners had sent an automated message upon my booking to ‘get in touch with any questions or even for recommendations’ they refused to respond to important questions about the check in process etc. on arrival some old signage in the house referred to keys to use which caused confusion. An attempt to contact the owner for assistance at the time was of course ignored. (As it turned out the signage was outdated and incorrect.) The property was lovely, however shows signs of poor management. Gardens are neglected and entry way not even swept and piled with dead leaves, the oven not cleaned, rubbish was piled up in garage (where guests are directed to place their waste) etc. Luckily nothing happened in the property during our stay because I have no doubt that had we tried to contact them to report a property emergency we would have been completely ignored again by the owners.

The rubbish was everywhere and it stank really bad. I tried to contact the owner but there was no response and all of the messages just had generic auto replies. The cancellation policy policy was terrible so we had to return 4 days later after our hike. The smell was still there and the dishes were still in the dishwasher.

Location was amazing! You couldn't ask for a better spot to go dine and wine in hobart, especially for a large group! The place was also clean, comfy and great for a group of friends. Thank you for a lovely stay.

As a group of 7, it was tricky only having one bathroom indoors (but not a super big deal!). Also, when we arrived some of our towels were still drying in the drier and there was a bottle of water opened on the coffee table. This is fine, but would have been nice to have a heads up, especially as the check in time is 3pm to allow the cleaning to be completed.

Great location. Very modern feel. Nice amenities, including coffee offered. Lots of pots and pans. Nice shower. Pretty good value

Very poor communication with owners. Only had automatic messaging through booking.com Wouldn’t respond to any messages on the app. Didnt answer a call either. Didn’t respond about a broken lightbulb while staying. Very cold property - needed heater on at all times, electric blanket and many extra blankets to sleep and still cold when using all these things.
