Kaikoura, Cubby House Stay

We loved EVERY moment during our stay. Our host Leanne was the best host. This house is fully equipped with anything and everything you would need in your own kitchen. Our fridge was stock with all kinds of milk and supplies to make our own breakfast. Most importantly we love love love our interaction with the animals. It’s a difficult place to leave. Our experience at Cubby House is the highlight of our NZ trip. Our stay at Cubby was the perfect end to our 9 days road trip. The location is beautiful with both ocean and mountains. Give yourself at least minimum 2 days to fully experience, explore and enjoy the farm and animals. Leanne is an EXCEPTIONAL HOST. Thank you so much for our beautiful stay.

From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warmth and hospitality by the wonderful host, Leanne. Her kindness and attention to detail made us feel right at home, and her passion for the property and its animals was truly infectious. The rooms were immaculate, cozy, and thoughtfully equipped with everything we could possibly need. It’s clear that Leanne takes great pride in ensuring her guests have a comfortable and enjoyable stay. The beds were incredibly comfortable, and all the little touches made the space feel extra special. But the real magic of Kaikoura Cubby House lies in the farm itself! There’s so much to do and see, and we loved being immersed in the peaceful countryside. Feeding the beautiful animals was an absolute highlight—there’s something so heartwarming about interacting with the friendly sheep, turkey, cows and chickens. Our kid (and let’s be honest, us adults too!) were over the moon with the hands-on farm experience. The property itself is stunning, with breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. We spent hours taking in the fresh air, and simply relaxing in the serene environment. It’s the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Leanne went above and beyond to make our stay memorable, offering great recommendations for local attractions and ensuring we had everything we needed. Her genuine care and enthusiasm made all the difference. If you’re looking for a unique, family-friendly, and utterly delightful getaway, Kaikoura Cubby House is the place to be. This is hands down the best B&B I've ever stayed in. We affectionately call it the "paradise house" because everything about it is beyond beautiful, exceeding all expectations. All the amenities provided are complete and carefully selected. Leanne took care of us with the utmost thoughtfulness and kindness. The animals on the farm added so much warmth to our stay, making it truly special. We're already looking forward to our next trip to Kaikoura so we can return to the Cubby House.

We fell in love with Cubby House the moment we turned onto the driveway lined with trees which opened into paddocks for different farm animals. There is so much character to the house and the whole place, its just amazing. And Leanne & Richard have put in so much thought into each and everything, making it so comfortable for the people staying with them. It has farm view, sea view, mountain view on the outside. It has fireplace, toy area, lounge area, lazy sofa, fully stocked kitchen and fridge, balcony for the view, extremely comfortable beds, smart TV, binoculars, music system, lots of throws and rugs for the cold nights and many more things to make your stay comfortable on the inside. And what is exceptional and hard to come across even when booking through sites like airbnb is a host like Leanne and the time she gives to her guests, right from a detailed email which helps in multiple ways from shopping to sightseeing, to almost like a experiential farm tour where she takes you and introduces you to all the animals and birds, including feeding them and telling us small anecdotes about them. Its simply amazing. Our daughter loved the place and all the time spent with the farm animals. We have such lovely shories to take back of Trevor (the farm police Turkey), Lola (the deer) and more. And imagine we started 2025 like this. It was just the perfect start of the year :) P.S. - leanne provides so much kitchen stuff that its hard to go hungry and not to mention about the breakfast items like farm fresh eggs, mushrooms, bread, yoghurt, etc to help you fix yourself nice breakfast.

Absolutely nothing, and basis the discussion we had with Leanne, she is planning to add more things to this when it will become almost incomparable to any other place in the area and would be the most go to stay place :)

Leanne and Richard offer a one of a kind stay in Kaikoura. The home is absolutely gorgeous, and they took extra pains to make sure that we were enjoying our stay. Couldn’t recommend enough for either couples or a group!

Genuinely nothing to say here — the stay was exceptional

Wonderful, generous hosts. We loved meeting all the animals/ pets and had a great time feeding them. My two teenage boys and older daughter loved this place, so clearly not just for kids but all of us young at hearts. Stellar location with wonderful breathtaking views of the ranges and surrounds. We fell in love with Kaikoura! Those dawn and dusk skies are just incredible! Breakfast choices were impressive, with an array of teas, coffee machine, cereals, eggs, tomatoes, bacon, real butter, spinach etc. We felt so at home as there was flour, and cooking sauces to make preparing our meals easy. I don’t usually like cooking while I’m on holiday but the kitchen was so well equipped that it was easier to cook our dinners and enjoy the beautiful dusk skies on the verandah. Lots of board games to keep us occupied at noght and even a piano for my muso son inspired while away from his instruments at home. All in all, a wonderful place to create happy memories.

Idyllic setting, million dollar views, cosy and comfortable home, amazing farm-stay experience. This property is a destination of its own. Would suggest if booking you ensure you have enough time to simply enjoy it… meet the animals, cosy up on the couch or veranda and enjoy the views, play board games, cook, and most of all, meet your wonderful hosts. Beds all very comfy. I loved the layers of snuggly warmth with various quilts and blankets! Very well equipped for cooking and staying in if you desire. The breakfast component is amazing… we have 4 teenage boys and it is rare that there is enough food provided…. In this case we couldn’t get through it! Eggs, bacon, fruit, yogurt, mushies, spinach, juice, cereals, pancake mix…. It goes on! We just loved our stay. Thank you Leanne and Richard. You have created a very special spot.

Nothing. Wouldn’t change a thing!

This was the second time we stayed at the cubby house because we loved it so much the first time we had to come back with our friends to celebrate a few birthdays! The owners always go above and beyond with everything and are so friendly. We had the most amazing stay watching the aurora lights and visiting all the farm animals. Can’t recommend this place enough for a weekend away with friends, huge place with lots of space for everyone to do their own thing.
