Owner was very nice and very helpful. The hotel is in need of renovation. Breakfast was very very basic. But it was a clean hotel.

"A bit tired and very uneven floors "

6.0

Stayed one night as part of a five day cycling tour. Had a family room. The children’s sofa bed was quite lumpy. There was a small step down to the room and a small step up from the bathroom. Toe stubbing and falling over small. Wouldn’t be good for people with mobility issues. Bathroom window quite exposed. And curtains poor -eye mask territory. No kettle in the room which is disappointing after a busy day. Plenty of floor space. Breakfast was good. We had dinner - steak, schnitzel and pasta - all good. No English menu so needed google translate.

"Oh dear, oh dear"

4.0

Bad Tolz is a quite fantastic destination, so the Altes Zollhaus probably receives far more visitors than it would elsewhere, due to the demand for rooms. I don't like to slam a guest house but it really isn't cheap, so has to accept what that comes with. Breakfast: beyond poor. Sometimes no implements on the table, things always running out, very low quality spread (except the fantastic bread rolls), cold coffee and no-one clearing old crockery away. Not the right way to set you up for a day of water rafting and hiking. The room: number 9 was huge, bed was good, but bathroom was below average. Owner wound the clock back to the 1950's with provision of two sachets of shower gel. We used them (after cleaning one arm and half a leg) and they weren't replaced for nights 2, 3 and 4. There is also a further relic, with two old-fashioned meters running in the bathroom. Would have been quaint if it wasn't redolent of a greater malaise with the property. Decor: I had carpets like this as an impoverished student in 1980's Birmingham. They were of a very low standard. Wi-Fi: If you lay down on the left hand side of the bed, wi-fi was just about okay. If you lay down on the right hand side, complete fail. Decent Wi-Fi is much needed, we must have logged in multiple times every evening as we plotted the next day's activities. Decide for yourself whether this sounds like the kind of place for you, but it certainly plumbed the depths for me.

"Older Hotel out of the city center"

6.0

We visited this hotel this weekend for 2 nights. We had room #5 which was situated right above the kitchen, so late in the afternoon, you could hear them pounding schnitzel and smell the delicious aromas of a Bavarian kitchen. The beer garden was just off and under our outdoor balcony. I know German hotels aren't known for having AC, but if one leaves the windows open for cooler temps in the room, then the mosquitoes come in to visit in the night. Me, being a spoiled American and hating mosquitoes, that was a pain. There was a nice little kitchenette in our room and a nice bathroom. I will say that the hotel is extremely quiet when considering other guests slamming doors in the morning or late at night. We heard no other guests and the hotel was completely booked both nights. Rate came with breakfast included and for a German breakfast it was adequate and staved off the morning growling tummy, but no hot dishes (except cooked in shell eggs). There was a selection of sliced broetchen/bread meats, spreadable wursts, cheeses, yogurt, watermelon, nectarines, dried fruit, fantastic coffee, tea, juice. It was a 2-3 km hike to the altstadt (old town) and since I didn't bring my tennis shoes, didn't attempt that. It is a family owned hotel/restaurant and historic and old.

"Watch out when you book."

4.0

It's unusual I know to write a review for a place you only booked, but I want to warn other travellers. We booked this place through one of our trusted booking agents, who are also available through Trip Advisor. I noticed that the site said special circumstances apply, or something like that, on the booking conditions, but I was not worried as I didn't reckon our circumstances would change. They did. I cancelled the booking just under two weeks before we were due to go. Within three to five minutes of the cancellation we received a phone call -- from the Hotel. Luckily, there was a slight glitch with our credit card (I'd entered a date wrongly by mistake) and so they had to speak to us to tell us that they were going to charge us in full for the night. My husband managed to negotiate them down ten euros or so, but the speed with which they picked up their money for nothing made us rather glad we hadn't gone. The special circs turned out to be a two week cancellation policy, anything under that time and you pay, which is very unusual these days. So, be ware, if you don't want to part with your hard earned cash for absolutely zilch. My wish now -- of course that I'd been really diligent in following the policy through but also that people would not think it appropriate to charge people for services they did not provide. In this day and age, it's not on.

"Very good place"

10.0

Very clean and comfortable Gasthaus; excellent cousine, very friendly staff but, the only matter, they don't speak English. The downtown of Bad Tolz (about 20 minuts walk) is very nice. From it you can either reach Munich or the Bavarian Alps in less than 1 hour. I also suggest to vist the Ettal Kloster, wher you can find a wonderful locally-produced, beer.

My wife and I truly enjoyed our stay at the Altes Zollhaus in Bad Toelz. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Our room was nice. Breakfast and evening dining were especially enjoyable. Great food and a very pleasant atmosphere. We would like to recommend the Altes Zolllhaus for anyone staying in the area.

"Clean and tasty!"

10.0

A nice small hotel. Not far from the Alpa Mare aquapark. The rooms are much better than what you usually expect for such a low price. The room itself was very clean, well-furnished, large enough and had plenty of storage-paces. There is free WIFI (you have to ask the owner for the code). The owner-lady is very very nice. The restaurant of the hotel is really amazing. The breakfast was basic but sufficient. But lunch and dinner were just SOOOOO GOOOOD! So even if you don't stay at the hotel - go there for dinner. I enjoyed this hotel very much.

"Clean, friendly, Bavarian character, very nice; would stay again"

10.0

Room was bigger than expected. Modern bathroom, contemporary rooms with fast WiFi. Small refrigerator, TV, desk, lounging area; clean. Restaurant was excellent, very "gemütlich". We loved the food and elected to eat "in" almost every night. The breakfast was very good and they were glad to give the kids hot cocoa and soft boiled eggs. The fact that almost every table was reserved every night indicated that the locals like it too. It wasn't noisy at all, very quiet at night. Bad Tölz has its own attractions, but it's convenient for regional sightseeing as well. You get tourist card that permits free use of public transport. Credit cards accepted w/ no additional fee.
