OYO Newquay Beach Hotel

After booking with you I sent a message stating it was my partners Birthday and if the hotel could do something complimentary, it would be much appreciated When we checked in, the room was standard with no special greeting or anything The Gentleman at reception said he didn’t receive any email even though I showed him that I received at response from the hotel staff stating that they would accommodate my request. So that was a little disappointing. The view in the room was facing a wall and carpark when i asked if we could be moved I was told the Hotel was fully booked but it clearly wasn’t. The bathroom room door was situated right by the end of the bed which made it very awkward to go in and out. As for the shower, It was an absolute joke. Upon arrival we wanted a showered after the long drive from London, as soon as we turned the water on the level started raising rapidly and pouring out of the top onto the bathroom floor. My partner went to reception and was told the maintenance man had just finished so they would send someone in the morning. Due to her continuous persistence they then sent someone who cleared the shower but this resulted in us being late for our birthday dinner reservations. The room (carpet, bed sheets, radiator and window seal) was filthy. The bathroom was also dirty, no place to put a hand towel. Overall this wasn’t the good stay and we won’t be coming back.

Staff and Management were helpful and friendly. Communal areas which were carpeted needed either cleaning or replaced as they were badly stained. Bedroom furnishings were very basic and garden view left a great deal to be desired. I have photographed carpets and garden view and will forward to you if so desired. Please advise.

Advertised as a 4* but it’s a 2 at best. Small beds, clearly not doubles. Small tv. Curtains that don’t fit the walls. No Ingredients to make cocktails. Dirty carpets. Hand wash for shower gel. Never ever again.

My wife and I were in Newquay on business and needed 4 nights accommodation. Read the reviews on this place and thought it was a good bet. Location to the beach did not matter to us, location to the town and quality of the accommodation was. From the moment we checked in, we had reservations. We had booked a Deluxe Double with Terrace Garden View, and it was anything but its description. The 3 flights of stairs to get to the room were the first challenge (no lift) and the stairs carpet was simply filthy as were most of the fire-doors on the way up. The room did not improve our regret either. Again, stained carpet, no headroom to get out of the bed on one side and to cap it all, the most worn-out mattress we have ever slept on (or tried to sleep on). As for the premium price for the ‘Terrace Garden View’ well a picture tells a thousand words, see for yourself. Our colleague who had flown in from Denmark had a single room booked and it was the smallest hotel room imaginable. The bathroom was so small the wash hand basin was the top of the toilet cistern, and he could hardly fit into the shower. Bottom line is, I would not stay here again if it were for free (and we paid a lot more than that for 4 nights).

We booked three nights in a standard double room. What we actually got was a single room with a double bed. The bed was situated in a recess with walls just 3 or 4 inches away either side. So no bedside tables, nowhere to place spectacles etc. There was no way of controlling the lighting from the bed and as you had to clamber in and out of bed from the bottom it was very inconvenient and awkward. The one night we wanted to have a drink in the hotel , we found the bar closed, apparently because the barman was ill. We surmised that there wasn’t anyone else available or capable of pouring a drink or two? Other than that, we found the breakfast and bar staff, when available, very pleasant and helpful and that particular area of the hotel modern and clean. We had pre booked parking at the hotel via a third party app but the communication between the two wasn’t great, but that little glitch was quickly resolved. The parking was very tight but was off road so very useful as long as you remembered to place a cone in your space when you went anywhere. The hotel’s location is very good regards strolling to nearby shops, bars, beaches and amenities.

Hotel is 1 star not 4 , room tiny not as photos advertised , carpet shabby dirt marks, no atmosphere, parking ok if you have a small car, only 3 inches one side of bed, so expensive very disappointed , would not stay again

The room was spotless and the facilities good, including bottles of water which were a welcome touch. So I was really pleased when I walked in. However this was spoilt by the mattress which was way too soft and uneven which made for an uncomfortable night where eventually I slept across the bottom of the bed. Not good and such a shame. This place is in an excellent location and is smart and welcoming. If you replace mattressses (see other reviews) in some of the rooms it will be excellent.

The staff were friendly and the hotel being right in front of the beach and walking distance to everything was wonderful. However, the room was the size of a box and is an extremely tight space for more than one person. The bed was old and springy, extremely uncomfortable and painful to try to sleep on. My husband couldn’t sleep the nights we were there and I really struggled with the sounds from the rooms next door or people walking along the corridors. There’s no soundproofing at all and all the box sized rooms are so close to each other that you can hear everything and be easily disturbed just by somebody opening or closing their doors (which slams really loudly). Despite their wonderful location, I don’t think I’d stay there again or recommend to others.
