The Westin St. Francis San Francisco on Union Square

The hotel is in Union Square located very close to financial district and Moscone Convention Center. Chinatown and Embarcadero. The hotel is warm and very comfortable. The Westin St. Regis is European style that's opened in 1904. The rooms are wide open, clean, and very nice view. The famous cable car stops in front of the hotel; around the hotel you can find high-end shopping, theatre, nightlife, and dining options in a walking distance.

The room was very small and the bathroom and bath dated and uncomfortable

The hotel is absolutely a great location… It is in a historical building. There’s a small museum that you can visit on the ground floor. The architecture is phenomenal. The staff are mostly great. What was disappointing as a cleanliness of my room. The bedding, and the shower curtain had rust stains throughout. There was balled up toilet paper on the floor in my bathroom when I just checked in. There was also a dirty counter next to the sink area. I discovered much later the next day, that there was blood on the side of the toilet that was not mine. I blame management for rushing cleaning staff. If cleaning staff are not allowed so much time poor Room, things like this happen. I believe that Westin management for the specific hotel, needs to allow staff the appropriate time to clean. Or people who patronize here, need to lower their expectations. This hotel and the cleanliness feel like a $50-$75 per night Room versus Whote you come to expect from the Westin.

My son and I took a last minute trip to San Francisco to sightsee and explore the city. Jeff at the concierge desk was incredibly helpful, suggesting ways to maximize our time each day and offering inside tips for eateries and transportation options. The hotel itself was clean and well run. The entire staff went about their jobs with a professional and caring efficiency. We especially appreciated the concierge lounge; it’s one of the nicest we’ve enjoyed in the continental U.S. well done Westin St. Francis team!

The hotel has lost all of it’s high end qualities. Starting with the entrance. You now enter in a run down side door. No grand entrance, no bell hops, NOTHING ! Room Service is limited and does not start until 5 pm. A weekend and no hotel bar open. NOTHING AGAIN! Drinks in the new bar that does not open until after 5 are absolutely outrageously priced.

Stayed Saturday night to break up the trip on way to 49’ers vs Rams. We were looking for a rooftop bar and Jeff Aquino at Concierge Desk helped us out. We had a great time meeting Jeff and he matched our excitement about visiting SF and the football game the next day. Was definitely one of the highlights of our stay!

We booked an accessible room for a mid-week stay, trusting the hotel’s multiple “accessible” categories. Unfortunately, the room we were first assigned had only a larger footprint—no accessible bathroom. The tub had high walls and zero grab bars, making it impossible for my husband to use safely after his ankle surgery. After a call to the front desk, staff moved us to a truly accessible room with a low wall shower and roll in bath area. They were apologetic and started working on a room move right away and the room they finally put us in was very comfortable and easily navigable with a mobility scooter. On the plus side, the famous Westin Heavenly Beds lived up to the hype—super comfortable and the room was blissfully quiet despite being right on Union Square. The staff were a highlight: doormen, café baristas, and concierge were all genuinely friendly and eager to help. One quirky amenity: a “freestyle” water station in the lobby dispenses still, sparkling, hot, and flavored waters. Bring a refillable bottle—it’s a nice eco-touch. The catch? Every flavor (lemon, cucumber, etc.) was empty throughout our three-day stay, so we stuck with plain. Overall, a strong Marriott experience with excellent staff and sleep quality. Just double-check the bathroom details if you need full accessibility. We’d return, but we’d confirm the room type upfront.
