The Westin St. Francis San Francisco on Union Square

The line to check in was long and so my initial impression was not very good. However, after we checked in, I was in awe. What a stunning hotel!! The lobby and entire grounds were decorated for Christmas. It was breathtaking. We were in room 521, a suite overlooking Union Square. The view from our room of the Christmas tree and the decorations at Macy’s was beautiful and festive. The room was appointed with all the expected luxurious of a Westin. The only negative was it is a couple miles from Fisherman’s Wharf. Other than that, it was a great location and a spectacular stay.

I'm not even sure where to begin so I'll start from the beginning! We had the most amazing time at the St. Francis. Such a beautiful, iconic property. We were treated like royalty from the moment we walked in. We arrived early in the morning after a red eye from Hawaii. Elaine greeted us at check in and was completely amazing. She knew right away we needed some extra assistance after the overnight flight. She was able to offer us one of the best upgrades I've ever experienced. Not only were we able to check in immediately, it was probably the nicest room in all of San Francisco. All of the staff at the hotel were amazing. The ride in the "E" car elevator was so iconic. The way the Christmas tree in Union Square lined up between the buildings. Now to the food! BourbonSteak was amazing. Not only are we in the best hotel but they now have the best restaurant. The staff was just as amazing as the food. The attentiveness we received was phenomenal. From the manager Giuseppe, to the wait staff David and Emilia. Now to the cocktails. The Eighth Rule is a must visit. Atmosphere and cocktail were truly the best. I cannot rave enough about the experience we had. I feel so lucky to have had so many amazing experiences and all in one location. Thanks for everything and keep up the amazing work. We will definitely be back!

Because we had tickets to two shows in San Francisco, we chose to stay in the city overnight, and we couldn't have chosen a better location. Right by Union Square--in fact, our room overlooked it--the Westin St. Francis is convenient and quite lovely besides. Every staff encounter was friendly, and our room was delightful. (We were in the tower, so I can't speak to rooms on the other side.) Besides the great view, there was a huge closet, a nice little fridge, a capsule coffee brewer, and a pretty massive bathroom. Wish the water pressure had been a bit better, but overall, very nice. There were chairs and table by the windows for us to sit and enjoy the skyline. The main lobby was bustling but the floors gleamed despite the traffic. Finding the right elevator banks was a bit of a hunt, but I'm sure if we'd stopped to ask, we would have had friendly service. (We did get wonderful service at the marketplace, when looking for the ATM, and at bell services.) The marketplace is a bit expensive--$17 for a can of soda and a bottled Starbucks drink--but that's actually not too surprising for (a) San Francisco, and (b) hotel prices. I would absolutely stay again at this hotel.

The hotel is in Union Square located very close to financial district and Moscone Convention Center. Chinatown and Embarcadero. The hotel is warm and very comfortable. The Westin St. Regis is European style that's opened in 1904. The rooms are wide open, clean, and very nice view. The famous cable car stops in front of the hotel; around the hotel you can find high-end shopping, theatre, nightlife, and dining options in a walking distance.

The room was very small and the bathroom and bath dated and uncomfortable

The hotel is absolutely a great location… It is in a historical building. There’s a small museum that you can visit on the ground floor. The architecture is phenomenal. The staff are mostly great. What was disappointing as a cleanliness of my room. The bedding, and the shower curtain had rust stains throughout. There was balled up toilet paper on the floor in my bathroom when I just checked in. There was also a dirty counter next to the sink area. I discovered much later the next day, that there was blood on the side of the toilet that was not mine. I blame management for rushing cleaning staff. If cleaning staff are not allowed so much time poor Room, things like this happen. I believe that Westin management for the specific hotel, needs to allow staff the appropriate time to clean. Or people who patronize here, need to lower their expectations. This hotel and the cleanliness feel like a $50-$75 per night Room versus Whote you come to expect from the Westin.

My son and I took a last minute trip to San Francisco to sightsee and explore the city. Jeff at the concierge desk was incredibly helpful, suggesting ways to maximize our time each day and offering inside tips for eateries and transportation options. The hotel itself was clean and well run. The entire staff went about their jobs with a professional and caring efficiency. We especially appreciated the concierge lounge; it’s one of the nicest we’ve enjoyed in the continental U.S. well done Westin St. Francis team!
