DoubleTree Birmingham Perimeter Park

I’ve traveled all over the world and have developed a deep affection for beautiful uncomfortable accommodations. I was very pleasantly surprised at how clean and modern this hotel was and how comfortable the beds were. The staff were very pleasant and the hotel had a restaurant and bar inside which we did not participate in because we were just passing through I do recommend

Hotel complaints: This looked like a good hotel online and it’s really pretty from the outside and even inside it looks nice. But there were so many little issues that stacked up that this is definitely a hotel I’ll NEVER return to. I’ve stayed at plenty of roadside hotels that were BETTER than this Hilton property. My pros are at the bottom but I’ll start with the cons: CONS: This is the noisiest hotel room I’ve ever been in! 1. Dripping CONSTANTLY. It NEVER stopped - we thought it was the bathroom but it’s from the A/C exchange in the ceiling. There’s no way to turn it off and it sounded like a dog slurping out of its bowl all night. 2. Every time the A/C cut off it sounded like a pressure release valve with hissing and the whole nine yards and it woke us up throughout the entire night. And there was no way to just keep the A/C running - it kept turning on and off. 3. The smoke detector has a bright flashing green light that goes off every few seconds - all night long without fail. Most smoke detectors have lights but they are either one steady light or a light that flashes every few minutes. But this one had a bright light that flashed constantly and it was extremely distracting from sleep. 4. Parking - $10/night to self-park in a lot that is only for the hotel with NO gate and NO security and a sign that says “park at your own risk”. First of all, I booked through USAA and it said I had paid everything in advance and no parking fee was mentioned so that was a surprise. Secondly, this lot is only for hotel guests. This is not a commercial area and they have two huge lots for the hotel! And why am I paying to park at my own risk?!! If you’re going to charge me at least have some security cameras or a rent a cop! What we’re actually doing is paying to not get towed out of the lot that is just built for the hotel. (We were told by staff that Hilton started this at all properties in August 2024, but the DoubleTree in my town does not charge for parking.) We don’t care about free waters in the room - give us our free parking back. 5. We were charged a $50 deposit when we checked in, also something that was not told to us ahead of time. We have stayed at many, many hotels and have never been charged a deposit. 6. Poor customer service - the staff isn’t even friendly! This is supposed to be the south! And we had someone message us who was completely unprofessional - I took a screenshot of the exchange. She does not know how to talk to customers!! And we didn’t even order through Expedia. (We asked the front desk about this text message and they said she is a real person who works there.) 7. Bathroom - many issues in the bathroom. The lighting is really low. I couldn’t even see the back of my hair in the mirror when I was trying to check what it looked like. Water comes out from the shower onto the floor. The bathroom door doesn’t close properly - it’s a farmhouse door that slides across the opening and there is a wide gap on the side and you can see completely into the whole bathroom. So you can’t shut or lock the door and maybe that’s not an issue if you’re alone or with your spouse but if you’re traveling with friends or schoolmates etc you’re going to want the privacy of a bathroom door that actually shuts and locks! It’s also a very heavy door to slide closed. The bathroom lotion is “anchored” to the wall but the hooks are falling out of the wall (see pic). 8. The bedside tables and the bench are poorly made. The legs were wonky and not tight. One of the bedside tables had an entire piece of it laying on the floor underneath it (see pic). 9. The pool is tiny and filthy! (It looked way worse in person than the picture.) If it’s not usable in the winter they should cover it! Pros: 1. The room was very clean. I never found one stray hair on any surface or towel and I usually do. 2. Smart tv allows you to connect to your favorite streaming service. 3. The lady at the service desk when we left was really nice when we told her about all of our issues. She was the only nice staff we encountered. I’m not sure of her name but she was working the front counter at 730am on Friday, Nov 7th, 2025. Whoever owns this property needs to visit in disguise as a regular traveler and see how they are treated and if they would pay money to stay here. (Try room 405 but from the other reviews I’ve now found, it looks like many people have had issues with this hotel.) When you pay for a brand name that specializes in hotels, you expect a lot more than you would get at a roadside motel.

I liked the size of the room as well the cleanliness of everything and also the welcome sign on the tv.
