Sheraton Anchorage Hotel

We stayed here on a two night stop over during our trip through Canada and Alaska cruise, on arrival the reception staff (Lyn & Hubert) gave us excellent service, they were able to check us in early and assigned us a really nice room. Any issues were quickly and professionally dealt with. It is a nice hotel with a breakfast restaurant and coffee bar at 3pm Ptarmigan their bar restaurant opens at 3pm, unfortunately we did not eat here as we did local tours so went to nearby restaurants to the drop off points due to timings. On the whole i recommend this hotel

Staff was very friendly, especially Lyn. The lobby was nice and welcoming. We requested a luggage rack first day but we had to request it again the second day. The bathroom was nicely updated. Water pressure was great and the lighting was too. There were lots of charging stations, nice TV, coffee pot, fridge and safe, but no microwave. We had three in a room, but they were unable to provide a bigger bed or alternate arrangements. The double beds and towels were very nice. We expected queen beds when we paid for the room in May through a cruise package. Ptgariam food was OK, but $25 fish and chips were not good. Smash burgers and fries were good for $18. The bartender was rude to us, other customers and even staff. The website refers to the spa, but it closed years ago. The room furnishings were very worn and tired. The sundries room was very well stocked with a wide assortment of food and even ice cream. You will miss it like we did if you don’t look for it. A cab or 15 minute walk will take you downtown to better restaurants, bars and the 5th Ave mall. The Ulu factory and Biscuit Club were our favorites.

Kyree was awesome Super pretty and lovely hotel. Front desk was extremely helpful. The area is super cozy and homey feeling as well

The manager @ the front desk on the first late arrival night. She didn’t want to give us the rooms we were shown first. She claimed they were reserved for somebody else. Somebody else who wasn’t @ the hotel yet.

1. Sewage issues: I was graciously given an upgrade when I arrived, which when I went into the room, I turned down as the bathroom smelled like sewage. The reception person kindly apologized and gave me a room on the 11 Floor with access to the Lounge. On the second night of my stay, we had the same sewage smell in that room while the water ran on the tap. In the final day, I go into the men’s restroom down in the lobby, and found the smell there once again. Three times in three days. 2. State of property: the property is seriously run down. You can see it in the furniture everywhere you look (reception, room, lobby, restaurant). Clearly not the standard of a 4 star property as advertised by Expedia. The area where the hotel is located also does not help seeing that the hotel is beside a cemetery, a Soup House, and a Medical Care facility for the handicap, not to mention the number of homeless drugatics (on marihuana or worse) - it does not create a feeling of safety when walking toward the restaurants and shops as you have to cross all this area (3-4 blocks). 3. Cleanliness: the property appears to be running low in staff causing this to be an issue. Tables are sticky, coffee marked on the roof of the lounge, etc. 4 Personnel: at the reception and cleaning staff, they appeared nice enough…however, at the restaurant, you can see there are problem in service, cleanliness of where the food is being served, and follow up with clients.

The HVAC vent cover was missing in our room, and the unit itself protruded awkwardly over the bed near the window. When we tried to use the A/C around 11 p.m., the room had become extremely hot, the system wouldn’t turn on. We called the front desk and were told a technician would be sent within 15 minutes. After getting dressed and preparing for someone to enter the room, we were informed via follow-up call 20 minutes later, that the A/C was completely broken in our room. Our room was over 90 degrees through the night. In the morning, the shower floor had a noticeable bubble that shifted underfoot if you moved in the shower (we are 55 and 75 years old), making it feel unstable and poorly maintained. We had booked two rooms — one paid and one on points — and paid nearly $500 per night per room on the paid night. This was by far the worst Sheraton/Marriott experience I’ve ever had. I would only consider staying here again if there were absolutely no other options. I’d prefer a lower-end or off-brand hotel over this one. If it hadn’t been so late (11 p.m.) and with a 5:30 a.m. departure, we would have left and found a different hotel. To be clear, the staff was polite, but it felt like they were used to dealing with frequent complaints. And to top it off: when I reported the issues to Marriott, they offered 10,000 points as an apology — a token gesture that didn’t come close to making up for the experience. A full refund for the paid room and the points used would have been the only reasonable response.
