Fabulous hotel in a perfect central location. Staff were so friendly and helpful a special thanks to Moira who helped us find wonderful places to eat. Also Chris who made us fantastic drinks in their lovely bar and provided interesting facts about the history of the link about American shipping. Super stay breakfast was sublime too!

This is a great hotel. Our rooms were clean, spacious and had a modern art deco look. We had breakfast at the hotel two mornings in a row and everything was delicious. One of those mornings our table was at the atrium, which is beautiful. The staff was friendly and helpful. Our flight was leaving very early in the morning, and since the restaurant would not be open for breakfast yet, they made sure to have bagels and coffee ready for us at the lobby so we could take them with us to the airport. The location is perfect too. The Opera House, Karl Johan's gate, the central train station are all less than a 10 minute walk. Centrally located, so it was very easy to get there from the central train station. Plenty of shopping and dining options around as well. Definitely would stay here again.

Fantastic location – a short stroll from the Central train station. The building has an attractive aesthetic and an interesting history (the HQ for the Norwegian American Shipping Company). Check in was ok albeit it felt a little generic. What was immediately apparent was significant building work taking place behind the hotel which I didn’t notice on the website when I booked ( I would have thought the hotel would have warned clients). The room we were allocated was big enough and the bathroom have a cool art deco feel about it plus the water pressure from the shower was very good. Interestingly there wasn’t any water in the rooms however the water in Oslo is fine to drink. The walls are thin and provide an opportunity to acquaint yourself with your neighbour’s activities. The room was decent value for money as was the breakfast (included). The breakfast area had a nice cost feel to it and the service was efficient. Checkout was a breeze and very pleasant. Shout out to the bubbly lady on the front desk (with the Australian husband).

This iconic hotel is located just across the Oslo Central Station and opposite of the famous Tiger sculpture in front of the station. This makes the hotel very centrally located for a lot of Oslo attractions such as only short walking distance to Oslo Opera House (8 minutes) and Karl Johans Gate (10 minutes). We stayed 2 nights here using a total of 40,000 Choice Privilege points. Breakfast is complimentary at the hotel for all guests. However, to manage traffic we were given time slots to appear for breakfast and we still found it quite crowded. On the plus side, the menu choices was ridiculously good. They had so many unique menu options and on top of that, you were provided with a menu card to order off of for the eggs. One option was Eggs Benedict (my favorite kind of eggs) and obviously I had that for my entire stay every day. Thumbs up: Location, Location, Location!! Across the Oslo Central Station and within short walking distance to a lot of tourist attractions including Oslo Opera house. Being across Oslo Central Station meant you can easily take the train to other cities as well as Oslo Airport from here, which we did. Arrived from Bergen on train and left by train to airport. Also many walking tours start at the front of the hotel which is very convenient. Complimentary breakfast had a vast selection of menu items and on top of that had a menu card for eggs made to prepare. Thumbs down: Room felt a little cramped (compared to US standards) but still was good size for Europe. Being nitpicky here, otherwise it was fine. More reviews to come.

Staying at this hotel is like stepping into a beautifully preserved piece of maritime history, but with a vibrant, modern pulse. The location right across from the Central Station makes it incredibly convenient. We picked this hotel because it’s part of the American Express/ Fine Hotels + Resorts, allowing us to use our credit card benefit (reduced rate and upgrade to a Junior Suite). Once you’re inside, the atmosphere is calm and sophisticated. The rooms are thoughtfully designed with high ceilings and unique touches that celebrate the building's heritage as the former headquarters of the Norwegian America Line. They were clean and quiet. DO NOT miss the breakfast at Atlas Brasserie. It is a true standout, offering a fantastic spread in a bright, airy space. Only down note was our experience grabbing drinks at Pier 42. We didn’t feel welcome or treated rightly: with plenty lounging areas empty, we were told that only seats at the end of the bar were available. We found out afterward that seating was first-come, first-served. Supposedly. Luckily for the staff at Pier42, the other staff were so friendly and helpful, their service so consistently warm and attentive that we still rate our stay as a 5 out of 5. This hotel serves as the perfect home base for exploring the city, providing a sense of luxury that feels both authentic and welcoming. We wouldn’t want to stay anywhere else if/when we’re back in Oslo.

The location is great, a minute's walk from the station. Arriving mid afternoon, the reception area was quite hectic. After a short wait in a queue, checkin was friendly and informative. Booking via Amex, one of the benefits was a subject to availability upgrade however I was advised that as I'd booked a room with a balcony they didn't want to upgrade to a room without one?? The hotel is tastefully decorated throughout. As for the Superior Loft room, housekeeping was good - the room was clean & well maintained, with some lovely decor nods to the hotel's past. The balcony was small, with no seating and limited outlook. The room’s lighting controls were modern and intuitive. Sleep quality was good. In terms of detractors, given the extremely low ceiling you could only exit the bed from one side - not a “superior” room feel. Similarly, the corridor had some very low ceilings (see photos) resulting in a nasty knock to my head. There was also no complementary water (chargeable in the minibar), a lack of storage space and the minibar wasn't restocked. The hotel has a brasserie - open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It seemed popular with non hotel guests therefore I’d recommend booking. Breakfast had the option of a buffet as well as a small a la carte menu - the food was tasty however hot buffet items were cool and service could be improved (no familiarisation on day 1, not attentive either day). Surprisingly, the bar does not open until dinner time. Room service was limited to 12-2pm and 6-9pm. A few additional detractors: - Housekeeping servicing is slow. On my first day I returned to the hotel in the afternoon after a 5-hour period to find my room unserviced. On speaking with reception, I was advised this typically doesn't occur until after 3pm. They advised they would ask housekeeping to service the room then - I waited in the lobby lounge for 45 mins only to return to a still unserviced room. When housekeeping did appear, they let themselves in without first knocking. - The room door did not auto-lock upon closing it. Upon raising this with reception I received a reply that this is common practice in Norway for the lock to not activity for a couple of minutes. My suggestion that non-Norweigan guests would not know this, and presents a security concern. My suggestion that a sign should be displayed in room to advise guests was totally dismissed. - The site next to the property is undergoing construction works. This hadn't been advised prior, was just a small sign in my room indicating there "may be noise" during the week. Whilst it didn’t impact my stay the site has just been cleared - ie the construction has yet to commence. Check out lacked the usual “how was your stay formality”. In all, the hotel is nice enough but I’d look to stay somewhere else if returning to Oslo.

My wife and I visited Oslo for 3 days and we had the pleasure to stay at this property. I felt good about my booking here, but was very surprised by our experience. Very walkable and in a perfect place for public transportation. The breakfast was our favorite part. The buffet was probably the best I’ve had in any country I’ve been to. I would recommend this to anyone and will stay here again if I return to Oslo.

The Amerikalinjen exceeded our expectations. The breakfast buffet was the best we’ve ever had. The beds were extremely comfortable. The entire staff was exceptional. Strongly recommend!!
