Torel 1884 Suites & Apartments

We had a lovely stay at Torel 1884. We were int he main hotel - there are apartments on a parallel street, but we wanted the hotel. First impressions were great - a lovely lobby in a fabulous old building. Reception staff were wonderful - as they were all of our stay - they couldn't do enough for us. We were in ground floor room, out the back, past reception and it was great. Very quiet and cool. The aircon was very loud, so we turned it off and the room never got too warm. It was a lovely space - a really big room with a free standing bath in one part. High ceilings and well equipped. We were given glass of fizz when we arrived, and then had a bottle also in the room - along with a small daily treat which was nice :) Out the back we had a small courtyard, below street level (as it is on a hill) - and then a good bathroom with a good rainfall shower. The only potential issue for the room was no views and no sunlight as you are effectively below ground - but we decided we liked having the little courtyard more than a window onto a street! Breakfasts were good - again lovely staff. Not a buffet - proper service - with a continental selection delivered to the table, and then a menu to order food - the Eggs Benedict and Omelette were both really nice. Only comment - fresh Pasteil de Natas rather than Croissants would have been nice instead of croissants! We're in Portugal after all, and there was an amazing bakery a few doors down. The location is ideal - 2/3 of the way up the road from the river to the train station/cathedral. Right in the middle of the old town, with a pedestrianised street of bars and restaurants a few steps away and easy walking to anywhere. We will definitely be returning to Porto, and we will definitely stay here again when we do - I can't recommend it enough.

We had a wonderful time staying in a torel 1884 apartment. Lovely surroundings, great food. The staff were all friendly and attentive and made the stay feel special. Porto is a beautiful and vibrant city .

No mirror in duplex on top floor nor bin. No hand rail on stairs- dangerous. Menu in restaurant for evening meal strange- no chicken or steak

No elevators in the suites apartments that was the only small inconvenience.

Staying here was one our best hotel stays ever! Our room (the elephant room) was spacious and well appointed. It’s in a former bank and the room is quiet as a vault. The location is ideal, close to but not in the Ribeira, adjacent to Rua Flora restaurants and shops. Easy walk to Sao Bento station. We preferred this to staying in the touristy Ribeira. Highly recommend Padaria Ribeira bakery for lunch/snack. Augusta and her staff were friendly and professional, taking care of our every need. Breakfast was a lovely start to each day. We are already planning to return!

The hotel is beautiful, artistically interesting and comfortable. The service is exceptional. The staff is personable, extremely courteous and responsive. We loved every interaction with them. Location is ideal - walking distance to everything. Thank you for a lovely 4 night stay. We were sad to leave.
