We started a 6.5 hour road trip later than we planned, and ended up stopping around 10pm. Staunton is located close to JMU (Tru is 25 minutes from campus), so it wasn't too surprising when we pulled off and found a packed parking lot (JMU'a home opener for the football season is today). It felt really lucky we found a great last minute rate on booking.com given the packed lot. Check in was smooth. Leah at the front desk had no trouble finding our reservation, even though we made it about 20 minutes before checking in. She was friendly, but kept her conversations with guests light to ensure the short check in line moved along (how was your trip? Wow, how long is that? Etc). She asked us if the second floor would be okay, which I appreciated - especially if there was an option. The small things are amplified when you're tired and unexpectedly checking into a hotel at 10pm, when you were expecting to drive through to your destination. Now, for the hotel. Tru is not a resort. There is breakfast, and while good, it's the basics you would expect. There is no room service, and I don't even think Tru hotels have pools. There is a cute game area with foosball and some others, and a nice outdoor deck that was being enjoyed by a larger party. The rooms are not extremely large, which is typical of a Tru. There is a bar-type desk with a chair, a TV with access to BYONFL (bring your own net flix log in), and a bathroom with some of the best water pressure I've ever experienced at a hotel. The entire lobby was tidy, and our room smelled fresh and was extremely clean. I usually hate hotel soap, and didn't want to pull out my toiletries (again, quick stop). I actually loved their body wash and almost went to Amazon to find it. Now, the real test: the beds. I love my husband more than any other human, second to our kid. As many parents know, kid free hotel nights are for one thing: sleep (I know what you were thinking, dirty reader 😉). My husband is usually first awake, ready to hit the road. He was the one who wanted to sleep in today, stating that he had his first good nights sleep in a long time. The beds are really comfy, and I personally like a thinner top blanket at a hotel because they're easier to clean than the giant comforters. The blackout curtain did its thing. It's 7:49am as I write this and it looks like the middle of the night. Again, if you're here for a wedding or a stop in over night, this is for you. If you're not super bougie and don't mind a smaller hotel with fewer amenities this is for you. Tru offers a great price point with the trusted Hilton name.
