InterContinental Dhaka by IHG

This is an excellent hotel, well located in the heart of the city. I stayed with my wife and son - we travel a lot but it was their first time in Dhaka. It took only 20 minutes to reach from the airport by taxi, late in the evening. The hotel decor is classy and modern. Check-in was easy and overall, all staff were highly professional and helpful. The room was wonderful and clean - it was easy to fit an extra bed for my son, without it getting too cramped. The bathroom was well designed - perfectly lit for my wife to get ready and with a well sized bath tub. We had some clothing cleaned. My son’s white jeans have never been as white as they were afterwards. We took the lounge access - this was a highlight for us as a great place to hang out and take meals. There is a good (but limited) lunch and dinner menu, plus soft drinks and canapés. I would recommend to add this option, especially if you don’t want to over-eat (easily done in Bangladesh as the food can be very tasty). If you come on business, the lounge would be a good place to have meetings. We were a bit surprised that we had the place to ourselves at times. There is a separate 24 hour cafe, which also has excellent food. The biriyani is particularly good. The restaurant prices are reasonable given the class of the hotel but pretty high. Breakfast is very extensive and as you’d expect in Asia, you can get dosa, dumplings and all kinds of savoury options. There’s also a fantastic fruit section. Coffee was pretty good. The swimming pool is heated and really nice, after a day in Dhaka. The gym is well equipped and we used both the sauna and steam room. Coming from Finland, the sauna was always going to be too cool but the steam room was good. The surrounding area is pretty interesting. You can walk to Ramna Park, which is very lively with courting couples and (presumably) Tiktokkers pulling dance moves. The national museum is also a short walk away. Walking is not for the faint hearted - traffic rules in Dhaka are randomly applied and crossing the road like a local, which you have to do, is hair-raising. But there are a few walkways, partly thanks to the metro. Lalbagh and the old town are easily reachable (less than 30mins away) but you need to get a scooter (locally called CNG). Again, not for the faint-hearted but probably faster than being in a car. As it was wedding season, we saw numerous wedding parties staying in the hotel and this also added a lot of character to our experience. I am certain we’ll be back and staying in the Intercontinental.

There was a wide variety of cuisines. I had breakfast at the buffet three times, and everything was really tasty. I was very satisfied with it.

Great hotel with amazing staff. Faultless!

The location was a little tucked away, missing out on the the hustle and the bustle.
