"Interesting"

6.0

Lovely couple run this hotel. However we had to carry our bags over 100 metres up a ski slope by ourselves.was not a good start for the week. The hotel is in good condition and rooms are a reasonable size.Breakfast was fine;soup, main course and unlimited coffee. Village is quiet but very interesting.Overall, enjoyed my stay.

"Owners clearly have a passion for hospitality "

8.0

We did not realise when we nooked that this hotel was LITERALLY on the ski slope! So when the taxi driver dropped us to Jupeer (ski ticket building ) and told us we needing to walk up the ski hill we thought he was confused. However we got the friendly staff at Jupeer to call the owners and the man came down straight away with a sleigh to help us get our luggage to the hotel. This was a fun experience you don't get many other places. From the moment we walked in we felt it was very homely..... cosy and clean. Our twin room (10A) was spacious with our own toilet and shower. There is a hot tub on the next level up for all guests to use throughout the day and night too. The beds weren't very comfortable but we were warm. The noise of the snow machines outside during the night was loud but didnt last forever. We tried to buy our own food down at family mart to save money as the food was a bit above our budget here. However, it is good quality and very delicious in their restaurant but just a little expensive we thought. There was no fridge in the room but we hung our plastic bag with milk and other cold things out the window to keep it cool. The only real issue with location in this regards to buying your own food is a 20min walk each way to the convenience store. Getting to the ski lifts was super easy! Go to the ski locker, put on your equipment, take a few steps out the door, then slide down to the lift. That's one of the best parts of this hotel. The other best quality is the owners who are always smiling and never too far to help! They run a great hotel in a good location.

"Great Slope Side Inn with Great Food"

8.0

This place is run by an elderly couple who love their Hotel and welcome their guest like family. So essentially you are staying in their home which happens to be slope side to Zao Onsen Ski Area. The whole place is designed for skiers, the couple themselves are skiers. When we arrived, the old man came down from the hotel with a sled and helped us drag our heavy baggage up to the hotel. We took quite a big load despite we offered to help him... he is extremely fit and strong for his age. When we arrived into the hotel, we changed out of our normal shoes into slippers. This helps keep the whole hotel very clean. We could immediately see where the skies and boots were to be kept; in a nice warm dry room right next to the slopes; perfect! Once we step out, we can easily ski down to chair 5, chair 6, Gondola 4 or Junpeer Main Ski Lodge. You will need a ticket to access the chairs and gondola. The rooms are small, but acceptable. The bathroom is is very tiny but again acceptable. There is a hot tub looking into the slopes, very nice and we used it in the evenings frequently. Breakfast, lunch and dinner is served in the dining area, looking into the slopes. The food is extremely yummy. Worth it. Yes, if in Zao Onsen, I would recommend this place. But since you are staying in someones home, you have to abide by their rules. But these rules really do make your skiing enjoyment all the more fun and practical. It was well worth our time.

"ski in, ski out resort which is what you want"

10.0

From the moment you arrive at De Barte Resort in Zao you feel like you’re at home. Masashi and Yuko are the proud owners of this extremely well presented and professionally run resort. The room we stayed in was fantastic, clean, cozy and well presented. We had breakfast included in our package, which is really worth while. Yuko presents a delightful menu each morning, which is another reason why you should stay at De Barte, Yuko’s cooking is simply outstanding! De Barte Resort is a ski in, ski out resort which is what you want, as you can be on the snow in a matter of minutes. One item to be mind full of is that there is no direct car access to the resort, we got dropped off by a taxi close by to the resort, Masashi collects your luggage in a sled and transports your luggage to the resort which only takes a few minutes. The De Barte Resort restaurant is very popular for lunch, but don’t leave it to late as you will have to be quick to find a table as the restaurant quickly fills up. Overall we had an awesome trip to Zao, a special thank you to Masashi and Yuko, we had a terrific stay at De Barte Resort and would highly recommend your resort to anyone wanting a stress free stay at Zao.
