Grand Hotel Golf Resort & Spa, Autograph Collection

I do love this place, but I may recommend riding a bike there as a friend and I (on 2 separate weekends) had our cars hit in the parking lot. Unfortunately, there is very little security in terms of cameras so the hotel was unable to help much, if at all. They were kind, but kindness doesn’t cover 8000 worth of body work. I wish they would have better cameras/security in place.

Every staff member we encountered went out of their way to help us and were so very attentive and well trained. We have absolutely no complaints and we will be planning our next visit soon.

Marriott has revived this property. The grounds are beautiful, rooms nicely appointed, and the staff goes above and beyond.

We went in for a Mothers Day retreat; we both scheduled similar treatments but they one of us had a 2 hour gap in between services. This is because they only have one nail technician to do all manicures and pedicures. There are like 6 chairs in there? Also, a bunch of mini facail stations and only one person was using one station the entire day we were there. We ordered lunch and it was clunky as we had to scan a code and order from room service. I was unable to order as it was still before 11 - even though they knew i wanted it for lunch after my first service was over. The food was late - arrived cold and not soggy - the side wasn't correct. Tiffany, the director came to find me and discussed some of our issues and we thought she would handle. Some of the missteps included poorly trained assistants who didn't make correct bookings for my friend; my enhancement wasn't the correct one that i had changed it to and they mostly stood around looking bored. They should be assisting the spa guests with offerings of cold water or drinks, etc. Getting fresh towels - so many things they could do. The indoor pool is part of the relaxation we are permitted to use - but, it is locked up. We had to get an assistant to open up for us. We almost got locked outside of the pool as those were the only tables to eat at. All of that area should be open and the assistance walking around to assist and help guests. They said at desk waiting for someone to check or out - there 3 and sometimes 4 of them! Why not hire another nail technician? We were told the service providers do not get paid for time w/out a client but are expected to still be there... unpaid I guess? not sure of those details but again this place could be so much more if better managed. Tiffinany ended up taking only 20% off our food bill which covered the automatic gratituty that was added. We were kinda taken back from her lack of concern for all the mishaps that occurred and that she did not do more to accomodate. We spent quite a bit of money; thankfully our actual services were done well and we were happy with them. I think we'll go back to the Battlehouse or try another local spa before we go back to the Grands spa. We are locals and stay at the Grand a few times a year. The spa facilities are lovely - but, so undermanaged.

Historical

First a big shout out to the staff at this huge, beautiful resort surrounded by the Mobil Bay and lush greens, meticulously manicured by the hard working people who run this place. Everyone was so friendly, from the front desk, to the woman riding around in her golf cart watering all the planters that dotted the landscape. My wife and I are trying to see all 50 states & Alabama was number 39 Our stay was so relaxing because of people like Luke and Tyler at the restaurant bars, Alexia, Star & Thejesh at the bike rental spot, all of the Zacks (There were at least 4!) in particular Zack by the pool who kept me well hydrated with water & local beers, and a huge tip of the hat to the maintenance man named Marcus who literally got in the pool to put a ladder together & had to hold his breath for a few minutes while he screwed in the steps to a ladder that had broken. Bravo to all of you & the few that I did not catch the names of. The restaurants, bars & activities were enough to keep us on property, but do venture out to nearby Mobil, Faithope, & Dauphine because there really is a LOT to do. I would come back here because the spa, (Kristy (?) I think was her name did an awesome massage) the pool, the hut tubs, the sunsets, the history, the dinning & the comfortable huge room.
