The worst nightmare! The place is rundown, not maintained and run by the rude and unprofessional staff. The manager locked the gate and held us captive demanding to pay for the services and food they didn’t provide, the security guard violently pushed me and we had to call for policy for rescue.

Staff were very helpful but seemed quite awkward. I think this was because we were seemingly the only guests. The Sri Lankan food options were tasty. The wifi, when it worked, was good. However, it was intermittent during our stay (can’t be helped as the weather was to blame). The room was spacious and the plunge pool was clean. Strong and hot showers! Milhan was exceptional. Outstanding customer service. He greeted us with a delicious watermelon welcome drink and a moist towel to cool off after the 8 hour drive. Anything I needed was provided and he was checking in daily. We had to leave early due to a medical issue and Milhan showed genuine compassion and concern for our welfare.

The location. It’s literally in the middle of nowhere, there’s no surf at whiskey point (apparently hasn’t been working for a few seasons), no other restaurants, you can’t swim at the beach due to coastal erosion (it wasn’t any stronger than our local beach in Australia but even as confident swimmers we didn’t get in). The western food was not good but just order Sri Lankan as that was good. It’s very expensive to get a Tuk into town, the price seems fair it’s just that it’s so far. We knew it was off the track but expected there to still be local rotti stops or something at whisky point but you essentially couldn’t leave Aprota unless you go into Pothuvil or a bay proper. It wasn’t an issue for us as I had data but you can only communicate with staff via WhatsApp and when wifi is down due to rain this could prove difficult. It’s a shame about the location because it is a lovely place and the staff were so attentive and friendly, particularly Lasitha our food and beverage manager and Milhan.

From the minute we entered we felt uncomfortable, the staff is very awkward and don’t know how to behave. When we came we were the only guests in the hotel. However, it took them almost an hour to serve water despite several reminders. When we went to check on it we caught them playing cards on the restaurant terrace. In general they forgot our food orders. Also, they always came in a group of 4-5 people which just made it very uncomfortable. Why do you need several people to serve a bottle of water? It’s a shame because the property is beautiful but the service is just very bad. To be fair I assume they never received proper training. But you can’t charge that amount of money and call it a luxury resort with that kind of service.

understaffed, the hotel was going under financially, didn’t have WiFi for our entire trip and didn’t tell us before they asked for our card to charge us. also dirty drink glasses and the room was not cleaned properly
